msbre- they can call any time at all during the day and evenings. They normally don't call late at night but never say never. Keep your phone close by all the time. If you are somewhere where you can't have a phone put it on vibrate and stick it under your bra strap lol.
Me t oo- I wrote my son to find out if there were SR's that was not getting mail..Please send me any names also send me a message.
Awww, Dianne, that was so sweet that he thanked you. The smallest thing, for us, can mean so much to them.
Happy Sunday, everyone. Maybe some calls will come in today?????
Yes, please send them in a private message and I will be happy to write to them as well :-) I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. This group is really quiet.
Anyone that gets names of SR's not receiving mail, please pass them along.
Great info, cathy, and so sad to hear about those not getting mail when deployed. I remember years ago, I wrote to a Marine, brother of a friend of mine. His family was asking for people to write to him. I did...and forgot about it. Well, just a couple of years ago, after he had now retired with the Marines, I saw him at a wedding. He came up and told me how much that letter meant to him. It wasn't such a big deal for me to write it, but it was huge for him to receive it. So...definitely...our troops need to hear from us. I think it's wonderful that church groups are filling in the gap here on that too.
Thanks for the info Cathy...I will definately write to those other troops when my son is out of boot camp, for now I'm going to focus on those SRs who are going through boot camp. The happiness and well being of all the shipmates in a division directly effects how the other recruits boot camp experience is, so supporting all of them is supporting my son as well. I am sure this is true out in the field as well....
To all : It is not just some Sr's that are with ours that do not receive any mail. Believe it or not the problem is with all our military. It was even more discouraging to find that many of our soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan were not receiving anything from home. As a result org.have cropped up to help alleviate the problem. Letters From Home is a good one. Our Church group has been sending home made cards. I have been told that the cards are cherished and hung on tent walls. They even get carried with them. This situation is sad. Here we have people defending our freedoms (and others) and they don't have anyone to care about them and show support. There are quite a few groups out there if anyone has the time or desire.
I just added a discussion above that is a questionnaire I made and sent to my Sailor just before battlestations at bootcamp. It is a little bit funny and it also has a great paragraph about teamwork and battlestations that gives lots of encouragement. Please look over it and even if you don't want to send another questionnaire you can copy and paste the encouraging part. I think it would be helpful for anyone at bootcamp. You can even print extra copies and let them share it with their friends. You may have to tweak it a little bit because my Sailor is a girl :-) I hope you like it!!! Enjoy :-D
