dianep - It is such a shame that your son was discouraged from going to Church. No one has a right to force their religious views on another.
atimeforart: I had a feeling that was the case. I think this was a scare tactic by this Chief...mainly because he told my son he didn't "believe in all of that ____." But it scared my son enough to not go...and he has gone to church all of his life.
Sigh....I know he would have enjoyed it!
When I was in boot camp, most of the recruits when to one of the services because those that stayed behind had to clean! Also, we never got in trouble in church because there wasn't RDC's there, there are many different services and faiths, they can't attend them all. I don't recall anyone getting in trouble ever at the service, it's the one time and place where a recruit can feel "safe"
diannep that is so sad and wrong. My son stepped away from his faith when my husband got cancer. I was hoping that my son would go back in the service. When my older son was in the Army they practically forced them to services. My how times have changed!
cathy: Sadly, when my son was there, he said that the Chief told them not to go to church because that is "when they can get in trouble". WHAT? Too much freedom--he said---fraternizing temptation. He was not a believer and stated this to my son in a one-on-one. Sad...but happy for the SRs who do go! Know it is wonderful for them.
It seems quite a few are going to Church - some that never go. I wonder if they encourage it.
my daughters played in the Wounded Warrior Lacrosse tournament today..It was so sweet...Of course my girls told EVERYONE about their big brother..I think they are more proud of him then my husband and I are..LOL..
Got my 2nd letter today also..Sounds great..
