Katheeh when did your SR leave?  I have not had my hopes up for a letter yet since he has only been gone 12 days now.  But we are in the same PIR so since you have received one now I am thinking maybe there is hope to get one sooner than I thought.

Comment by diannep on March 17, 2012 at 8:03pm

It is really neat for the SRs when they get these "ranks" in bootcamp.  An honor for them!  But remember...they are just bootcamp ranks.  They "end" after bootcamp is over. The highest actual promotion they can get in bootcamp is to E-3.

My SR's girlfriend called me this morning to tell me she got a letter. Of course I was working in a neighboring community and couldn't run home to check MY mailbox.  I'm sure I broke a few laws getting home, and I cried all the way home...I was crying because I was excited AND I was crying about "what if I didn't get a letter".  A letter was in my mailbox, YAY!!!

I thought the letter would make me feel better but I feel like I've gone back one week in emotions...I miss him so much!

YAY letters!

Here is a little more on the RPOC and the COC at RTC:

Here is a chart of the COC at RTC (Chain of Command):

Click to open in another page and zoom.

Here is the link to RTC website that explains all the RPO positions (Recruit Petty Officers):

http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/recruit_petty_officer.asp

Here is a pic of a Collar Device(I belive there are a different number of Chevrons depending on their postition) that the RPO's wear:

On the Chart RCPO(Recruit Chief Petty Officer) = RPOC and RLPO(Recruit Lead Petty Officer  = AROC

But it is too hard to yell... "RRRRCPO or RRRRLPO get your ________ in here"...So RRRRRRPOOOC and ARRRRROC it is.

I am so happy that everybody is getting their letters..I am leaving out today and I won't have internet..I will be back Sun..Hang in there..Our SR's will be fine

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on March 17, 2012 at 3:25pm

I believe RPOC and RCPO are the same thing, someone correct me if I am wrong.

RCPO - given symbolic E-7 rank insignia on his collar (highest rank attainable in bootcamp). He carries the saber and marches the recruit company whenever the Company Commanders direct. Otherwise he marches in the front rank. Also in charge of overall discipline when company commanders are not present.

B3kranch - "beatings" is just a figure of speech.  Usually you will hear that during week 4 is known which in known as "hell week".   I had to explain this before to a mom that thought the term "Hits" was actually striking her sailor.  Again "hits" is just a Navy term meaning "penalty".

Here is what I wrote before for another group....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hell week is where everything the recruits have learned to date is tested. Several things happen. They wake up the recruits at 3:30am to get them ready for the day's activities. They bring in RDC's from other divisions and they compare their division to your division. They see how well you learned. Most RDC don't like to admit that your division is better so they find the simplest of faults to penalize you.  These penalty points are called "Hits" in the Navy.  Don't confuse a "hit" as someone is beating your kid.  It's just a figure of speech. NO ONE CAN PHYSICALLY HIT (strike) YOUR RECRUIT. You might have a small string hanging out of your pocket...hit (-1 point) You might not have your "gig line" straight...hit (now -2 points)
.
By getting so many hits, the recruits RDC's are ticked. You get Physical Trained (PT) and Intensive Trained (IT). You will get reinspected too.  You will be standing at attention and parade rest for a long time waiting for your turn to be inspected. Don't think this is punishment, think of it as teaching your recruits.  Knee's unlocked!  What these RDC's don't want is during the PIR for the sailors to faint in front of the crowd. It's bad press. Those that are really taking hits (penalty points) during the inspection could be rolled back (set back) into another division to relearn what they have already been taught. They all must meet the same standards because they are a team! If one team member is not performing, they move them to another division (a week or two behind them) so they can learn it again.
Alot of people think "Hell Week" is a untouched term used only for the SEAL/BUDS training.   However, people fail to realize that "Hell Week"  originated long before the SEALS ever came about.  In fact, it  was used since the 1800's.  I do think the SEAL/BUDS guys are very fond of the word and added to their own vocabulary just like college students, police officers, etc.
So there you have it, hope that helps
that makes perfect sense jbr, at least to all of us who have been through this too :-) So happy you got a letter. It definitely does your heart good.
