Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

We have a June 1 meet and greet in San Mateo at BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse (11:30 to 2:30) with over 20 attending. Click HERE to RSVP

Comment by CatMom509 on May 21, 2013 at 1:55am: Wow, sounds like you gals should have a little meet & greet yourselves at the Navy Lodge--maybe with your Sailors! Just a thought. Haven't seen so many in one group all staying at the same hotel. If you really want to meet each other you will need to trade cell phone # and put on vibrate when you arrive, say at Sarge's Meet & Greet on June 27th. It's at Sundance Saloon from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm, which will be closed to the public, only Sarge's crew and Navy for Mom's families there. Kids are welcome! It is a little dark in there because of the videos being shown on the big screen there, so that's another reason why it' hard to find each other over there. Lots of other Navy families go there too--maybe there is a Facebook connection too. Sarge gives lots of info on getting in and out of PIR if you are driving yourselves and you can sign up for his shuttles, which are $3 each way if you don't want to deal with the line. Your Sailor can ride back to your hotel free with you. Anyway, never too early to plan!!

But I finally got his first couple letters so that's keeping me going! He sounds very sad to be away but he seems to be doing really well in BC.
