For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by ellen0502 on May 19, 2013 at 4:50pm: simplykci, Phone calls are never guaranteed for anyone or all. Some in a division may get to make one, others may not, sometimes the whole division is allowed to make them. Individuals may earn an extra phone call when nobody else does.

Phone calls can be given and taken away and it does not necessarily have anything to do with your SR.

I received four calls from my son when he was in BC, the "I am here", "I am still alive" (which was 2 minutes 13 seconds), a short call right before BS, and the wonderful "I am a Sailor" call, which he started by saying he didn't pass...grrrrr. He had earned two more calls during BC, but was never granted them, no fault of his own.

He's the kind of kid that needs to be moving doing something always. He never said he wanted to come home though... I read other moms saying the same thing but that it changed somewhere around week 4. They have said that when we hear from him again, he'll probably seem tired, but fulfilled :0)

Comment by rws9d245 on May 19, 2013 at 10:27am: J's wife. I don't know I asked in his next letter to tell me about his friends. As far as div count I believe there are 88 but this is a brother division so I guess it's 88 x2. Nice to know we heard the same things!

Comment by J's Wife on May 19, 2013 at 10:22am: 1proudmom.ship09div245- my husband's in the same div and I notice the same sort of sense of accomplishment and strength in his voice. It was really nice to hear a made me all the more proud of him. I wonder if they're friends. My SR said that things are getting a little intense in the group because he thinks they're trying to get them to turn on one another right now. I forgot to ask how large the div is. Does anyone know how many people are usually in each div?
