Stephanie, if you still can do the Navy thing, why not??? I think you could do really well.  Your nephew is only 18 mos old???  You were brave to take on that responsibility.  They can be so cute but such a handful at that age!

Lovemynavyson - $350 for a week is a good deal!  I hope you are able to enjoy it.  Irene is beating up the coast right now.  It sounds like the East Coast is taking this hurricane seriously - a good thing.  I wish Irene would take a right hand turn and head out to open sea.

As for the med cruise - it will be the trip of a lifetime for me.  The only reason I can afford it is that our aunt passed away earlier this year and left us some money and my sister talked me into it.  Ya only live once!

I live about 20 mins south of Ocala. I will get outta FL one day, one way or another. i am bound and determined to, lol

Steph - I didn't realize you lived in FL too - What part are you in?

I'm really looking forward to getting away - Never vacationed in SC - traveled through on our family vacations to Pensacola, Gainesville and St. Augustine (which I absolutely love). Probably one of my all time favorite vacation spots!  I like the old city and the relaxed family atmosphere...low key.

Anyway, SC....A friend of ours owns a condo a block from the beach and its only costing us $350 for the entire week!!

Paula - I was checking out some cruises - med.. included. Wow...you are going to have a fabulous time! You mentioned before about checking some out of Cape Canav., if I'm not mistaken- I found cruises to the Bahamas for $199 pp and Med. cruise for under $500pp! I told my husband we sould consider one some year???? I would love to see the Grecian islands, rome, and so forth. Another one started some where in Greece and followed along, hitting Napals and then places in France and Spain coming back down around Italy - You will definately have to tell us all about it!

Well, good night ladies - Hope you get to venture out of FL someday Steph...

Paula-Hes 18 months old. To darn cute and hes gettin so big..i want my lil mann back. And hopefully your son will get outta FL. Tell him hes not alone in his conquest to leave this state. I keep trying to leave. So far it hasnt worked out for me, lol. One day tho! One day ill get outta this place, im confident in that fact. Interesting fact, i almost joined the navy 2 years ago for that very same reason, just to get outta fl. Wasnt able to tho cuz some family matters arose, and i felt at the time that it was better for me to be here with my family. But now that those issues are resolved, i am considering it again.

Lovemynavyson-Hilton Head is beautiful. we used to vacation there when i was a kid. Not a far drive to go there from norfolk, VA.

Hi Lovemynavyson,

Yes, it's pretty dead here and the Sailors and moms have moved on.  My son is in his 3rd week of 12 or so weeks in A School in Pensacola.  It's been almost 2 weeks since we last spoke.  He is not very communicative.  Never has been.

Whidbey Is. - neat!  I'd love to go out there to visit the area.  I so hope my son gets anywhere but Florida - he basically joined the Navy to get out of FL and so far BC was his only escape (and BC wasn't much fun... :->) then they sent him straight back to FL.

Vacation in Hilton Head sounds super too!  Very cool that your son and his wife can join you.

I'm looking forward to a 14 day Mediterranean Cruise with my sister in mid-October.  We fly into Istanbul and then cruise to ports in Greece, Italy, France and end in Barcelona, Spain.  I just hope my sister and I get along in close quarter for that length of time!

Hi moms...checkin in my once a day to see how things are going in here. It is 'dead' in here...guess since our 'boys' have moved on  - Not a ton to tell.. My sailor left Mon. for Whidbey Is. monday. He's doing the indoc process so haven't been to much communciation. He said after tomorrow he should have alittle more free time.

I sure hope he likes it as much there as everyone says he will. Say its so beautiful and that we need to take a trip there too! Well, I live in PA and my sons live in FL and WA...oaught to make for an interesting year of planning trips.... : ( Still considering FL in Dec., but my youngest said she really doesn't want to go--so we'll have to see how that all plays out. BUT......my husband and I are rescheduled for our Hilton Head SC vacation next month!!!! YIPEE, can't wait...and my son and daughter in law from FL are coming up for the weekend while we are there. It will be so nice to spend time with just the two of them, as every time he came home, it was a couple days and he was spread for time - so it will be nice the entire weekend with them both!

Hoping all is well with everyone and wishing you the best Steph...

Glad to hear it was uneventful.  How old is your nephew?
Comment by StephanieC on August 26, 2011 at 2:24pm
drive was very uneventful, except for at one point i had the radio playing and my nephew was lookin out the window and yelling and so i turned the radio off and looked back at him when we were at a red light and he turned and gave me a dirty look the second i turned the radio off. almost as if to say "HEY! i was singing to that" as soon as i turned it back on, he looked back out the window and started yelling again. it was cute

Stephanie:  Hope you have an uneventful drive and that you stay safe.

Well just finished loading up my car. Im driving home tomorrow with my nephew. Im taking him to his mom on my way home, so that my brother doesnt have to try and find a babysitter for the weekend since his normal one will be out of town at a wedding this weekend. ill let yall know how this goes with my mom. hopefully i will be able to find a job or 2 and work lots of hrs so that im never home to much, we dont argue that way.
