For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Comment by diannep on June 12, 2012 at 3:19pm: You all remember to check out Southwest Airlines too, since they have no change fee--I had to change my date when my sailor was setback--- and first 2 bags ship for free. They fly into Chicago-Midway and into Milwaukee. Milwaukee is less traffic, sometimes, cheaper, and only a 45 minute straight interstate drive to GL. Midway is the furthest airport from GL, but is one of the two Chicago airports that the sailors will depart from heading for A School the day after PIR.

And we booked fr Virgin America they have reasonable price than other airlines. Will be leaving CAL a day before 4th of July just thought would be nice to spend 4th of July in Chicago:)

I cannot wait to see my husband again :) I feel like all of the letters and distance has actually made our marriage stronger! This last week has been pretty good for me. I am settling in to a routine and am starting to accept the distance between us right now.

I just wanted to give anyone who hasn't made travel plans a "heads up"....

If anyone is traveling from the Los Angeles/Southern California Area:

it is MUCH cheaper to fly out of Las Vegas on Spirit Airlines!! And it is totally cost effective to drive all the way to Vegas to leave. My mom and I got tickets for $120/person from Vegas when it was going to be $380/person to leave from LAX/SNA/ONT. It is just something to think about.

I hope everyone is able to find good deals on their PIR trips! :)

It really does get easier after you get letters and a call. Phewww, i didn't think i would make it..lol I do have to admit though, my sons shirt is still on his bed so i can occasionally smell it. Ha, probably time to wash it. So proud of these guys.
