...should say that they can change this amount or cancel deposits into it whenever they want to (once they have banking access).
helenk: There are no "all girl" divisions yet....I'm sure in the future, there will be! But for now, there are all-male divisions and integrated (male/female) divisions. As Lala said, the integrated train together but have separate barracks...thank goodness! I believe the girls are housed with girls from other divisions, right Lala?
Kurtmansmom: Sounds like he has a Navy Fed account. The TSP is the "Thrift Savings Plan." It is like a 401K. The SRs/sailors tell the bank how much (percentage) to take from each paycheck and deposit into this account--tax-free as it is a retirement account. That's wonderful that he signed up for it and got his retirement account started!
TSP is Thrift Savings Plan. It is basically a retirement plan for federal employees kind of like a 401k. They can contribute either a percentage of their income or a designated dollar amount. Some of the money deposited is tax deferred, some may be tax exempt, that depends on how and where it is earned, combat, non combat, incentive monies etc.
It also may have a matching contribution, not sure if anyone currently meets the criteria for that though.
I see the papers that my son has sent here, but don't know too much about it.
yay for your phone call! 2 WEEKS! :) :)
@ Kurtmansmom...so happy that you got a call so wanting to hear from my son I have got one call and that was about 2 wks ago...sorry i dont know anything about TSP.
My SR also told me that he probably won't get to call agian till two days before PIR.
That his A school is 10 weeks in GL.He might get 2 weeks leave after A school and he was talking about working in the recriuter office when he is back. Not sure what that is about. He signed up for TSP, some sort of retirement plan. Can someone give me some information on that.
Just got a call from my SR. Talked for about 20 minutes. He just got a hair cut. Said this week was firefighting. He sounded very good and up beat. Was already talking about liberty weekend and wanted to go to Chicago and to bring a friend with us, because his family was unable to be there. I said he sure can! I asked if he wanted to chill out at the hotel and he said "I want to go to Chicago"! He also mentioned a place called the Silo. Said he heard it was a good place to eat, I don't care where we eat as long I with him.LOL This cloudy raining day just became very sunny in my eyes! TWO MORE WEEKS!
@Lala. oh yeah, they yell! lol
Well, he called at 2:54 and it sure made me appreciate the 3 minute I got with my Navy SRs LOL
I am sooo excited about graduation. regarding getting lost-- when we were there in January we did not have trouble getting around, things were very close together. I used the VZ navigator on my phone, primarily. lol
Oh, ok. My daughter is in it also and I guess I misunderstood her then.
Would you suggest that I get a rental car at the airport or take Sarge's cab to the hotel (the Residence Inn)? I am terrible when it comes to directions and scare to get lost. I plan to get a rental car for the weekend while we are there and am not sure which is the better solution? HELP!!
