good question Wadesmom...and are we allowed to send SASE to them when we send out questionnaires in the larger envelopes. My son sent his letter in a regular sized one. hopefully they can use the SASE's we send them along with the questionnaires.
Ok, I have a question about mail. I read SOMEWHERE?? that some Mom's send a large (assuming 8x10) stamped envelope to their recruit so they can send their mail home. I was wanting to do this, but cant find where I read it and Im not sure what to do. I dont want to do ANYTHING that gets my son in hot water, LOL. Also, I wonder how many stamps to put on the envelope??
HELP!!
thank you so much for bringing this to our attention FTLW. I was also wondering about all of it, because my son did vent but he did say he is challenging himself and doing what is told but knew what he signed on for & hangin in there. I too, felt a little protective while reading some of the other mom comments. But you put it very well, they did sign as an adult but at the same time it's hard to understand and we all, naturally, visualize the worse. (kinda like, the momma lion protecting her young..and want to say, aww want momma to come beat em up,like in elementary school..hehe) thanks again
Just a "pre" caution for you all as letters are starting to come in...
Haven't noticed it here, but a caution in advance...sometimes a recruit will write home that their Division isn't getting it together...and they may write what their opinion is as to why. Examples...people won't stop talking...don’t listen...so it gets the Division in trouble etc. Some moms have felt led to ask others to please write their recruits to behave themselves if they think it is their recruit doing it (which I think is unfair personally...how would you know and they don't need us slamming them in BC for something we have no control over).
I don't advise this at all...it can come around and bite that recruit and possibly the "mom" who posts it right in the behind! I say it because I have seen it happen and felt horrible for the injured parties.
One...this is common...and for some recruits may continue until the end of BC..but you will be amazed at how much change will occur after the fourth week for the better! Two, it is a personal vent between you and your recruit and should stay that way. Three, it's not really our problem anymore...they have signed a contract as an adult and it is the RDC's job to instill order along with the Recruit Petty Officers...as well as a chance for your SR's to blossom and grow.
So, just a caution for you all...not a slam. Want the best for you and your SR's.
(I recently had a mom contact me privately about this and ask me to please warn future PIR groups...so that is what I am doing! Not my fave subject...but the flip side is knowing, "Could I have done something to help before it happened?")
megan:: My son went to bootcamp LONG ago...back in 2009. He is actually no longer in...honorably discharged in March. But I stay on here to help out because I have been on the PIR groups since he left for bootcamp! :-)
And, yes, I agree. But they "mean business" up there and rules are rules! My son's comment was that he was not going to "rat anyone out", but they are trying to make the SRs understand that a bad decision of not reporting something can put the entire division (or ship personnel) in danger, is my guess.
Thanks, Betsy!
megan21, Diannep is a "veteran" moms. Her son graduated BC a few years ago.
On the fraternization issue, my son got asmoed (setback) for not reporting a shipmate who had fraternized with a girl who had written her number down. He showed it to my son, and when the guy was caught, I guess they found out that my son had seen it and didn't report it. He was setback a week for not doing that. So...they are very serious about no fraternizing, even if that person didn't do it...but failed to report it!
Good morning all!
So happy you got a letter as well Lauren, hang in there ladies they will all learn to work together and do what is expected of them. It just take a little IT to make them understand :-)
I got my letter today!!!! I am finally able to get online tonight! I am so happy to hear from him. He is saying the same thing about his div (244) that no one is paying attention and talking all the time, so they only get 5-6 hours of sleep... but I am very happy to see he is doing well! :)
