you are welcome momplus2, we are here if you ever need anything at all. And not just during bootcamp. Anytime after that. We all have experiences that make it easy for to be able to relate to what you are going through. I can't even begin to tell you all the things I have gone through with my Sailor, from her being sick in A-school to not having any heat in C-school and worried she would freeze to death, to her getting married and keeping it a secret, there is just so much it's mind boggling. And each one of us has been through similar but different experiences and we are here to help you through whatever you have to face :-) Just find us and let us know how we can help.
momplus: Non-military families/friends try, but they just don't understand. It is so different than a child going away to college, like Lala said. My sailor had moved to another city for an internship and to work before joining the Navy for 1.5 yrs...that wasn't the same either. They can't "quit" on the military...they are "owned" by them...during bootcamp, there is little contact as you all know. In a time of texting, emailing, cell phone calling, etc....that is very hard! Next time a lady says something like that, tell them to have no contact with their college child for weeks at a time. That means....no checking them out on FB, no texts, no emails, no calls. Of course, they won't do that...but that would be the only way they would have a slight idea what it was like...
We all understand on this site...so vent when you need to!
Thank you Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons for hanging with us. It really does mean the world to me. Today has been a really tough day! I had one person say "Do you realize that is all you talk about" " It will come when it comes"....not really what I needed to hear. I won't be talking to that person for awhile...Thanks for being there for us!
I hope you get your letter very soon, mine took forever as well. i ended up with a real letter the day before I got the form letter. And you guys are so right. Family doesn't seem to understand. Mine just looked at me like I was crazy.... I heard things like :she's fine" "It's be be okay" Or "she's been in college for two years, you should be used to her being gone" UGGGG They just didn't get it. But all my Navy Mom friends on this site did understand and that is why I love this site and why I came back to help all of you :-)
Roscosmom..I feel so bad for your friend missing the call! I have my phone by my side 24/7. My son doesn't like talking on the phone. i am not expecting him to call...but like most posts have mentioned, they change and they start to change in a big way...you never know..he could change his mind. Lets hang in there and check in tomorrow. I will pray that we both get our form letters! Take Care
Momplus2 I understand the stess of not knowig (and not being able to plan). I also raised my two boys from a you age (2 1/2 and 6 months). I haven't made hotel reservations or anything yet because I have to decide whether to go visit my family (in Michigan) before or after PIR... plus one of my son's friends is on his list and will probably ride with me. It's maddening. I can't leave my phone for any length of time (one of my friends lissed one of her daughter's calls a week ago and sobbed for hours) because he MIGHT call. Today has been a missing the boy day :-(
We can only pray that it will come tomorrow. I will let you know if it comes. My son's box came a week ago Monday. We need to stay strong...and learn this is going to be our new normal for at least 4 years. That is why I love thiis site...I can't image doing this alone. I feel I have other mothers that share my feelings and are going through the same thing. Thank you for your post and support.
Roscosmom....thank you for your quick response. I have been going crazy!...nobody here....family, friends have no idea the agoney I am feeling. It is so good to get your post so quickly...I will pray for tomorrow and start making plans. I did make reservations already at the Ramada Inn..they said I could change or cancel up until the day before I leave. Not sure what airport I will be coming into or my transfer..I will just figure it out. I raised both my son and daughter by myself 17months & 4 years old(my daughter) and run my own business....so hard to focus when I have no idea when this form is coming. Thank you again...for your support Hope to meet you at graduation.
Momplus2 - I'm in Florida. The letter was postmarked 07/11. I am in the panhandle of FL so far closer to GL than anywhere in CA. Tomorrow - it'll come tomorrow.
