Rosecosmom...My son left 2 weeks ago and is on Ship 2 Div 942 as well.
What state are you in? I have not received my form letter yet... I am in California Thank you
When renting a car, make sure they know where you are going. We ran into some problems with that when we told them we were going beyond the neighboring states of GA. I'm not sure what happened, but Budget cut our cost from $238 to $206. That is for an intermediate car picking up on Wed and dropping of the Tues after Labor Day, unlimited miles.
Hi GANuke Momma. My son also left exactly 2 weeks ago today. I still have weepy moments, but it is getting better. Being on this website has certainly helped. We have reservations at the Navy Lodge. Thanks for the Budget Rental Car suggestion. That is my next task!
I am getting things wiped out a little at a time, getting ready to see our Sailor on 8/31. We changed our hotel reservations today. Hubby decided that he wanted to stay at the Motel 6 instead of the Red Carpet Inn. According to what I was told over the phone it was only going to be $5 more, but my confirmation e mail says that $20 less than what I was told. I'm going by what is in writing on the e mail.
We also reserved our rental car today. We were able to rent a car and pay for the gas for less than it was going to cost us for just gas in my truck. I HIGHLY recommend talking to Budget rental car.
I have secured my sub for the 2 days that I'm going to be out of the classroom. Now, all that is left for that part is lesson plans and discussing all with my 2 new Assistant Principals. Most of my kids have known this was coming for the last year and will be fine with it ( I teach 3 different grade levels in the same class of special needs children).
From here, we wait on letters, pray for an unexpected positive phone call, and count down the days.
Writing letters has been Great for my youngest one. I have a feeling that her big brother will enjoy getting her pictures of the 2 of them as well as all of the encouragement that she is sending him.
It is hard to believe that it has been 2 weeks ago today that we took him to the recruiter's office.
How is everyone else doing.
I have created 271/272 discussion. Come join us if your SR is in either of these brother divisions
Thanks, ladies, for creating the division discussions!
Still need them for 271/272, 273/274, 818, and 942. So anyone in those divisions, feel free to start a discussion in the Forum above for your group...either as a singular division, or as brother divisions like I listed here.
Hmmm.....being Labor Day weekend, Mrs.SeniorChief, they may get some liberty, not sure about leave though (although if they live within the 50 mille-radius, some sailors can return home during liberty). But just a heads up. Sometimes on holiday weekends, they don't fly out on Saturdays. It is possible that they could have longer liberty up in GL because they may not fly out on Saturday. This happened to FTLW's son for Memorial Day weekend 2011. She had booked back at the end of the weekend just in case, and then he told her they were leaving on Sat. Sigh....But guess what? He called her during PIR week and said their flights were changed and he had liberty in GL for the weekend (daytime). She was very happy that she had taken the chance and booked home later.
I would go on the San Antonio group on here. Ask if any of those ladies had sailors PIR before Memorial Day weekend. Find out what the liberty was like then and when they flew to San Antonio. That will give you an idea of what could happen. I would hate for you to fly home on Friday night (remember, your sailor will have liberty that day until 8 or 9 pm) and then find out he was in GL until Sun or Mon.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday. Today is my step-daughters 18th birthday. So I have been cooking and cleaning all day. We have lots of family and several of her friends coming over. We are having fresh Red Snapper caught while on vacation a couple weeks ago :-) Also grilled asparagus, homemade fruit salad, potato salad & baked beans, cheddar bay biscuits and of course birthday cake. Anyone hungry now? lol come on over :-)
For anyone new to this group be sure and check out this group page on facebook. Just make sure to stay on this page daily as well. This site needs you and so do the people on here who don't "do" facebook. There are lots of members here and the group is growing everyday. I am sure you will find some others from your division on this page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/327167160695549/
