While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by Leora on July 14, 2012 at 4:19pm: Jenniferlee - how exciting. I didn't think they would be able to call yet. I am going to keep my phone by me 24/7 for a chance to hear her voice. That sounds pathetic but I would do anything to hear from her right now. I cannot believe it is almost two weeks.

And I have a question....What is a brother division and why doesn't the 900 series have one? Thanks for clarifying for me and thank you for your support.

Comment by diannep on July 14, 2012 at 2:15pm: kbreanne: Each ship (barracks) houses several divisions. Each division starts off with around 88 SRs (more or less). They will lose some of these to discharge or asmo (being setback for something). They will also gain more SRs who have been setback (asmoed) and are now ready to resume training (from earlier PIR groups). They graduate with an average of 65-75 sailors per division.

And yes, he's in ship 9 div 276, and will be PIR on 8-31...making plans as we speak (Ok, as I type!)

Comment by luckied on July 14, 2012 at 2:38am: nursecat - no they do not have to pay for uniforms they will go from their blues to their uniform and all is provided.

kbreanne - there is typically 80 - 90 recruits in a division, (other than 800 or 900) and all the barracks are named after ships.

If any of you are interested in more info on BT I have a web site created by recent and past recruits to give you info on what goes on while at Great Lakes.
