CookieGVB, my daughter is in Ship 12 Div 270.  I too haven't seen anyone in that division yet either.  My daughter left on July 3rd.  I have received the box and the form letter with the PIR date of 8/31/2012.  She wrote a little message on her form letter telling us that she missed us and  "send letters please!" I can't even imagine how much letters mean to these recruits.

Thanks for this group, it really helps me feel better about missing my daughter.

I have made my reservation at the Ramada In as well GMom...i haven't received my PIR yet...which is driving me crazy! When I made my reservation with hotel.com i was told they had a shuttle from the airport to the Ramada Inn....I called the Ramada Inn and they said they have shuttle service to graduation but not from the airport. They recommended United Shuttle 847 912 6783 thank you for your post. I have heard great things about SARGE as well I will call them next. Thank you again

No form letter today :( Then I had to go see my SRs recruiter (he still had his diploma) and the recruiter just made me feel worse! Are recruiters that clueless or is our recruit office just that missinformed? I said I had got the box but not the form letter & he had no idea what I was talking about. Then he said I should be recieving a welcome package in the next 2-3 weeks, is this the same as the form letter?? He also said that I would get picture order form/info? I thought the SR ordered them.

Previous PIR peeps! Veteran Moms! or maybe another place to post this advice.....

Have a reservation for the Ramada Inn - Waukegan for 8/29-9/2.  My father in law is meeting us in Great Lakes and driving from N.C.  My husband and I are flying in from Tampa, FL.  So he can't really pick us up at the airport (OHare) and I've checked with the Ramada and they don't have a shuttle service.  Need reliable and affordable shuttle from Ohare to Ramada.  Any info on that?  Father in law can probably take us to airport at the end of trip, but I might just book a round trip thing if the price is right.  Don't need to rent a car since he will have his vehicle once we meet up.

Wow. I take a day off work (I read these mostly at work) and there are 7 pages of posts! I received my son's form letter before his box. The box came Tuesday. He is in ship 4, div 818. I've been coming to N4M's since October when my son joined the DEP program but it's great now that he's finally on his journey to meet some other moms in the same situtation. He is my youngest which means once his best friend, who still lives with us, ships out on 9/11 I will be an empty nester. Its scary and exciting both at the same time.

I got the form letter yesterday. My son's PIR is August 31. He did write a short statement on the back telling me all was well. Sure makes me feel a little better knowing he is okay. He is on SHIP 12 DIV 271.

I have made our reservations at the Red Carpet Inn. For 2 adults and 1 child, it is costing us $64.68 a night, taxes included. If anyone else joins us, it will be $3 extra a night. I've read that the Red Carpet is older, but clean.

Have I made a good choice or do I need to make reservations at the Navy Lodge?

GANukemomma, I know it is hard on all the moms, wives, etc but it is also hard on the little kids. They miss their big brothers and sisters or Dads and Moms so much and they just don't understand it all. I know some families have made it easier for them by making some kind of craft to help them count down the days until PIR. Some have made paper chains like are used at Christmas and they tear off a link every day. Others have used a small jar filled with marbles or pennies. One mom even used a jar filled with quarters and once a week they would take the quarters they had pulled out of the jar and go get an ice cream cone :-) There are lots and lots of creative ways to make it easier for the little ones. You can also do a picture collage of what they are doing while bro/sis/dad/mom is at bootcamp like going to the pool, the dentist, shopping, playing with a family pet, a picnic etc and then scan it onto the back of a letter each week. My mind is spinning with ideas :-)
