Here is some additional info on the Navy Lodge:

I stay military when I can...hubby has been AF Reserves for 27 years, son is the Sailor...so I have dependant ID. You don't need it for this Navy Lodge. You tell them it is for PIR and they may ask for your Recruits Name and Rate (Navy enlisted have "rate" not rank...it coincides with their pay grade E-1 to E-9 for enlisted. E-3 is the highest rate they can "rank up" too in BC). They may also ask you to bring them by to verify...but I always forget if that is enforced.

It is clean, I did not get a kitchenette as those are first come first serve. We had to queens and a rollaway.TV with DVD player, microwave, small fridge etc. Had nice furniture and a lobby with a fireplace. Hot coffee 24/7. Vending machines (variety...even one with alcohol! You have to get tokens at the desk for this.) Coin laundry, You can buy Computer time (these look exactly like the ones I saw in Recruit phone Computer room at the NEX) and pay for printer usage. Computers are in front of the elevators on each floor. WiFi has a charge. They do not have a Shuttle Service...but you can ask to arrange for a taxi...again here is where Sarge can come in handy!(SARGE AT 847-212-0246)

Lobby has DVD's for rent, post cards and a Curio with some Navy items for sale. They will give you a temporary pass to use at the small NEX down the road...there is also a gas station (don't need a pass for that).

It runs about $65.00 a night...no tax.

Here is a pic of the pass (courtesy of Craig):

They do a brown bag breakfast daily...was great for PIR. Bagel, cream cheese, chewy granola bar and large OJ...all in this bag:

Was great for PIR! I don't have pictures of the outside...only our messy hotel room!

The NL is about 1.5 miles from RTC. It is not on base but it is in some of the base housing area.

Here is a Mapquest from the Navy Lodge to Ohio Street, Gate 8 of RTC:

hee, hee ellen0502 Giggling....INCOMING!!! Oh, wait, wrong incoming...

Comment by ellen0502 on July 12, 2012 at 2:38am

nursecat: several of us have stayed at the Navy Lodge, and all have enjoyed it. FTLW has a great post about it, I would bet it is incoming :). "Bag breakfast" in the morning, bagel and cream cheese, orange juice and a granola bar, perfect to take to PIR. You are given info and schedule about PIR. There is also a  temp card for limited purchases at the NEX (no alcohol or tobacco).

momplus2: It took my sons form letter almost 3 weeks to get to me. If you can hold off on the airline tickets until you get the letter great, if not, get the travelers insurance that allows you to change the date you use the tickets.

nursecat(ship 2/DIV942) I have not received the form letter. I am in California as I have mentione d in an earlier email to you. I received the box on 7/9..but no letter. I call the recruiter ..he has no access. I checked airfair online...crazy if I don't get in soon I could be paying over $500. one way...you would think we would be able to have a military discount or some special rate. I could make the flight arrangments now and try to switch if indeed the 31st of August is not the date. I wish we could just go to a site to look it up. It sure sould save on postage.

Thanks for listening:)

So I've heard that the Navy Lodge is a good place to stay while visting Great Lakes for PIR. Anyone have any thoughts or experience on this??

Comment by Leora on July 11, 2012 at 10:46pm

Hi Everyone - I got the letter today. For some reason I didn't expect it...actually put it out of my mind. I was so thrilled at receiving the "box" yesterday with a little note in it that I just forgot everything else. PIR is 8/31. She is with Ship 12 Division 269. I hope those of you that haven't gotten it yet will do so tomorrow. I know the waiting is just exhausting!

GANukeMomma I hope my sons own standard of clean is much high than it was before he went to BC! I havent cleaned his room yet, hoping to tackle that tomorrow along with washing his dirty clothes that I got in the box yesterday.

I did get a laugh when I opened his box, his pant legs were rolled up! I remembered reading somewhere last week right after he left that this happens cuz they dont give them time to unroll them after boot fitting. My husband couldnt believe I was laughing while unpacking his things. But the mental picture of my SR with his pant legs rolled up like that just made me giggle!

Comment by GANukeMom(EM mom) on July 11, 2012 at 9:36pm

Today must have been the day for missing our SR's. Not only did I have a hard time with it today, my 6 yr old daughter also did. We had our cry together, she and I wrote her letter to her bubba, we talked about what he is probably doing, what we are going to do when we see him, and how we are going to celebrate his 19th birthday when he comes home for Thanksgiving...he will turn 19 the day after Thanksgiving.

I am praying for a form letter tomorrow.

I don't think he is going to recognize his room when he comes home. I'm also expecting to be told that his standard of clean is much different/higher than mine....at least I hope so.
