My sent went to BC on July 3rd. I recieved my 30 second phone call at about 7:10 on the 3rd. I received his box yesterday (7/10) but I haven't received my form letter. So I'm not sure that his date is 8/31. But if it isn't I have been told I can change to the correct post when I find out.

This site is wonderful. I wish I had known about it before he left.

Hi ladies, I'm Betsy and another "veteran" on here.  We have two sailors in our family, (at least for the next month).  Our youngest son (of our 5 children) is a CT on a super carrier out in Washington state and my daughter's fiance has been in the Navy for 6 years and is about to get out next month.   Welcome to the crazy life of Navy families and trust me, it can be crazy and unpredictable.  Can't wait to get to know all of you.

I know there are some of you already on a couple of facebook groups :-) And that is great. However, we want you to be sure and keep this page active as well. There are lots of people who do not "Do" Facebook and they will be here looking for others who have the same PIR and DIV. There are also those who come here to read your news and comments but they are too shy to post anything. But if you keep this page active they sometimes will get brave and start posting just like you. Sometimes having a family member join the Navy is not the only new experience for a lot of people. Many of them have never used a computer either :-) And I am sure they would like to get to know you as well.

Here are some of the more active facebook groups with members from all the PIR groups and DIV. Some are closed or private and some are not so you still have to be careful and not post your Sailors personal information.

Navy Mom PIR Friends https://www.facebook.com/groups/327167160695549/

Navy Moms: https://www.facebook.com/groups/46342059809/

Navy for Moms: https://www.facebook.com/groups/40865546374/

You don't have to go to or join facebook. you will get all the info you need on this site and we are all here everyday to answer your questions but If you decide you want to start your own private facebook group or DIV group we suggest that one of you make it yourself that way you know who is in the group. There are lots of groups created by other people who may or may not even have a family member in the Navy and you just always need to be careful.

And please, no matter what come to this group page every day and post any news, comments or questions so everyone can benefit from it :-)  Thanks!!!

Hi everyone, I am Lora, aka Lala the PIR Ribbon Queen from NC. I am one of the veteran moms who spends time on the PIR group pages helping answer any questions you have. I am so excited for this group to be formed. I have two Sailors, my daughter and son-in-law who have both been in for two years. they are based in VA Beach. We have experienced lots of different things through this journey and I am here to help you. If you have any questions at all please ask them here on this page and one of us will do our best to answer it for you.Or you can send me a private message if you like.  My Sailor was in the performing division 936 and was in the choir. For now the best advice is to write letters every day if you can. Even if your SR said not to, do it anyway. They quickly change their mind and love hearing their name called for mail call. It is like Christmas to them and they say the letters are what gets them through the next day. Try not to worry if the first couple of letters seem down or sad. This is normal and it does get better. You will be able to tell a difference in them with each letter you receive. I know this is hard but be strong, you can do this. And on the days when you feel like you can't come to this page and we will help you through it :-) I know you are looking forward to those first letters and calls :-) And I look forward to getting to know all of you and hearing more about your soon to be Sailors :-) If you need to reach me my email is: uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com

Idk yet if this is my correct group but I think it is... My hubby is ship 09 div 274..he's going to be an AM.. He arrived at great lakes on July 3rd got the 26sec phone call at about 930pm west coast time...I'm still waiting for the box and the form letter but I called the recruiter and got his address that way... I'm hoping to get the box tomorrow and the letter soon after that! I'm in Washington so it probably takes longer to get to me?
Comment by CookieGVB on July 10, 2012 at 11:35pm

Hi all - I'm assuming I'm going to be in this group - my son left 7/2 and is Ship 12, Div. 269.  I think they may be the 1st division in the next TG.  Either that, or they're one of the last divisions for 8/24.  I'm going with the flow and assuming 8/31.  :)

GMom/Ship 4/Div 818,

My boyfriend left 7/2 for GL, we got his box on 7/6 and the form letter came the very next day!  He is also going to be an Aviation Rescue swimmer and is in the same division as your son! We live in Oregon and once his mom gets home from vacation this Saturday we will start planning our trip as well! We all miss him tons!!!
