OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Yay!  I got a letter today!  He is a little cranky due to the heat and the uncomfortable-ness of the uniforms, but nothing can be done about those things.  He made me laugh and miss him more.

Thanks so much everyone. Mommy and baby are still doing great :) My mom has pneumonia and is still in ICU but my hubby says she looks much better this evening and I was able to talk to her on the phone. We sent lots of pics of the new baby to her and she is loving them :)

Waiting and waiting for a letter....well it came and I'm a mess. He sounded so down...is very motivated to go on but.... Hoping so badly that this week is going better for him

I received a letter from my SR, Ship 3 Div 338.  He provided lots of information...very unusual for him.  He doesn't seem to be scared or worried.  Says he's looking forward to what comes next.  I was very surprised about that.  I feel better now.

Lala - Congrats!  Beautiful baby! Prayers for all.

Oregon mom: I'm hoping no news is good news! Found out though my daughter is doing something with scheduling study sessions. Not sure if that makes her the education officer or not. She mentioned a while back she might be a call after her 2-1 day and that's tomorrow. So maybe another call this Saturday? She said she would get to call 1-1 and she did so let's hope and maybe she'll have some good news!

scoobydoo & NavyDad206: glad you have heard from your SR's also. I will ask my SR if one of the female Yeoman has a parent called Scoobydoo. Should bring a smile to his face & he will probably shake his head. He always says I don't know what a stranger is. :-) Any news on allergy issue NavyDad? Or is no news good news?

ChellyMay - Where are you trying to download it too?

If you are trying to load it on your Profile Page here on N4M's you have to use a  Comment Box and click on the Media icon. Some of the various areas have Comment boxes that aren't showing. Click "Edit" in the header of a section to see if it has one. Your Comment Box for your Comment Wall is "hidden" (You can see it on any of your Friends pages or anyone who has a Public Page). To expose your Profile Page Comment Box go to the Header that says COMMENT WALL. Directly underneath it says:  >Comment on my own profile. Click that and it will appear.

(I believe that this feature of hiding it was added as many were commenting to themselves...it takes a little practice to get to know the site :-)

The Media icon to embed the html code is the third one over from the left in the taskbar of the Comment Box.

Look at the one here on the PIR GROUP. Hold your cursor over each one and it will tell you which at each one is.

The first is LINK, then the next is IMAGE (looks like a picture) and the third is MEDIA (looks like a frame of film).

I like to open up the Media icon first before I go and copy the html code. That way I can pick the spot of where I want it to be first.

~So I go to the Comment Box and left click the "spot" with my cursor, then click on MEDIA.

~Another box should open that you can load your html code into.

~Leave that there and Open another tab on your computer to collect the html code.

~Get the html code and then click on the tab for the page you are going to load it.

~The MEDIA box should be waiting for you. RIGHT click within it and then click "Paste" to paste it in. (If it is stubborn and "paste" does not show up...right click a couple of times. If it still doesn't then something went wrong when you captured the code...just go back and try to capture it again.)

~Click "Okay" and it should load. (occasionally there are some that don't work...but the CD clock is good.)

~THEN make sure you click "Add Comment" for the Comment Box.
