Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by zachsmom94 (Ship 3 DIV 338) on July 25, 2013 at 6:42pm: I finally got my form letter and my first letter from my son!! I'm pretty sure I scared the neighbors with my yelp of excitement!! He still sounds a bit homesick, but not nearly as bad as he did when he called last Saturday. He said there are 94 people in his division. He said he is worn out and scared. However, he also said he has met a lot of people from all over and is pretty good friends with some. He said he can't wait to see me and his dad at graduation....whew....okay so that means he is planning on graduating still. lol. I hope everyone is still holding up!! This is a difficult time for all of us, but at least we have each other to vent to or share our excitement with. I thank all of you!!

Comment by ellen0502 on July 25, 2013 at 6:14pm: Their orders for permanent duty after A School can come quickly and come not so quickly, and will come after A School is completed. :) It all depends on where and if there is an opening for them in the fleet, when the money to move them is available etc. It is always a hurry up and wait process.

Comment by ProudNavyDad on July 25, 2013 at 5:41pm: Re the difference in delivery times for "the letter" that happened when our son was in RTC too, some of the divisions had their mail a little delayed 'cause it sat on someone's desk during the holildays.

Comment by ProudNavyDad on July 25, 2013 at 5:39pm: The best friend of our son is in this PIR training group. Our son graduated RTC in February this year and is now at A School in Charleston. I'm not sure whether I'll get a lot of information from his best friend, but we've been all the way through the bootcamp process with our son recently so some of our experiences may be helpful. Good luck to all your sailor recruits.
