Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I should have listened to my gut or mothers intuition, I had a feeling the call was coming. I will not miss the next one. He called our home phone also so I just wrote and told him his dad's cell or mine next time, please. Thanks for the encouraging words. They do help.

Comment by Mindy on July 20, 2013 at 2:54pm: my son is ship 13 Div 334.. he was able to call his girlfriend this morning but ran out of time to call mom. I'm happy to here is is doing well, left on 7/3 but said because of the holiday everything was on hold so he just started real training this week.. said he received my letter and would be writing back soon.. overall sounds like he's pretty good.

Comment by diannep on July 20, 2013 at 2:09pm: OregonMom: Next time you mow, keep your phone in your bra so you can feel it vibrate! Seriously, that is what many do, especially when waiting for the I'm a Sailor call at the end of Bootcamp. Hoping you get another call very soon!

ctz: Phone calls can come at any time. They are told when they make the "I'm Here" call to say that they will call again in 3 weeks, but some actually call sooner than that and some may call a little after 3 weeks. Calls are very random!

Comment by philipmom on July 20, 2013 at 1:58pm: Ship 12 Div 331. We received our call at 9:30 this morning. What a wonderful surprise! He sounded really tired. I miss him. He was able to call his girlfriend as well. Letters can be mailed tomorrow.

Sooo wonderful to hear that voice of hers on the other end! We got to talk for 20 mins. She sounded really good. Hope everyone else gets their call today too
