~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Ladies:  Just a reminder that we N4Moms veterans do not have much time to visit all of the discussion groups above.  Although we drop in when we can, we are on anywhere from 6-8 PIR groups at once so it is just too hard to keep up with all of the discussions.  If you ask a question in the discussion group that doesn't get answered, please bring it here to this PIR page.  We all try to drop into these general PIR pages daily.

Good Morning All !

Usually the last of the I'm a Sailor calls are received on Wed afternoon of PIR week....can't be more specific than that (i.e., reveal those divisions....can't post on here or FB)......just sayin'

And, yes, Bridget....there are usually BattleStations 2-3 nights for a specific PIR group finishing up during PIR week!  :-)

MontanaMom:  Yes, the SRs are offered a form during Bootcamp to complete in order to be listed after graduation in their hometown papers.  That is what your Editor was referring to.  My son didn't complete this form and I was unable to get it into my paper without that.  It is nice that your Editor will do this for you anyway!   Aaron'sMom:  Our local newspaper is no longer military-friendly either...makes me very sad....my sailor's experience flying in uniform to duty station from here in MIA was not a good one...ignored for the most part...and airlines staff was less than accommodating.  I was very disappointed....

Visited with our local Newspaper Editor. He also said they do send the clip on occasion not always.  He said normally though it is always after graduation. He ask if my SR completed the form to do this.....??? I could answer that for him so we will wait and see.  I know my newspaper editor would run it. He wrote a very nice column regarding my SR right after he left for BC. Nothing personal just about how much he would be missed by him (the editor) but not have as much as those that raised him.

The Navy Dads are talking about this, as well.  I don't think my junky hometown paper would run anything positive about the US military even if they were paid to do it!

Comment by ellen0502 on August 27, 2013 at 5:05pm

Your SRs get a form that they sign to send a press release to your local  newspaper about graduation, not all want it done and they can opt out, but most go ahead with it.

CarlaBTC, If they have already run the story they have jumped the gun a little bit, but woohoo! :)

I think its your SR that can choose to do that.  Here's an example of another, exact same text.  http://www.edenprairienews.com/news/general_news/kelly-completes-na...

According to what I found, your SR can fill out a Hometown News Release (DD Form 2266) and have it put in the paper.  Though I've not heard of any others do it in our TG, they may have offered it.

I don't believe the Navy would do that at all. You would have to research the real source. They would never have orders to release any information on Sailors to the press.

I just had an exciting thought!  My grand-daughters 1st b-day is Thursday!  It would be so great to get that "I'm a Sailor" call on that day!  I'm so afraid it will come in on Friday, which is her party.  I wasn't thinking to tell my daughter and all her in-laws the party had to be at my house so I would be around the phone and in Cell service.  I am so excited along with those dang butterflies.

Lala-prayers go out to you and your family, hoping your mom will be better soon.
