~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Oh, I imagine. Especially for the average age range in bc. They are all geniuses and they want everyone else to know about it. When I was a kid.... Wait. Let me back that up... From the age of negative until I was about 25, I couldn't keep my mouth shut even if my life depended on it.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on August 15, 2013 at 8:36pm

Congrats on the Letters and info from your Loved Ones!

The best advice for BC..."Keep your ears open and your mouth closed."

It's very hard to  not be able to talk though...I mean they can't even do it at chow!

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on August 15, 2013 at 8:33pm

LOL - Yeah, there will be talking and such...88+ different folks all trying to get on the same agenda.

I hear you on the marching thing. When I was in tall Flags in High School we had one girl that just could not march...don't know how she made it on the Team (She was a very nice girl though...just really did not have the talent for it like you said :-))

Comment by bchis on August 15, 2013 at 8:27pm

@FireTeamLeader

Thanks for the info! She did say that they all kept there leadership positions for now. She said that they did it as a group punishment because the RPOs seem to be getting top marks on just about everything. It has more to do with the constant bickering, fighting and not knowing when to be silent. The marching is another big thing. She said that she didn't understand why the marching thing was such a big issue for them. She can tell that it's not a 'teamwork' issue with the marching... just that some people can't march well. I suppose everyone has a talent but not every talent has everyone... lol

Happy Happy Joy Joy-----a letter arrived today!!  DIV 332 which trains with 331 for any of you following those groups.  He is writing as of this week, week 4 and the last entry was Aug 11 so fast letter sending :D  Phone calls---he knows that they will get one the week of the 25 (Sunday) which should be the "I'm a Sailor!" one.  They have been half promised one more before that but it is being used by the RDCs as a prod and enticement for better behavior.  My SR was really fed up Aug 4 with the chatter/giggling/talking by some of the DIV.  He was angry that some don't seem to understand that being at attention means no talking.  I loved that his biggest worry was these few might go out to the Fleet, not hear an order and cause an issue which could someone else hurt.  I was impressed with the maturity of that concern and his understanding of why focus is essential.  But in his next note he said they were getting better at listening and at marching.  (He's former marching band so marching is a huge point of pride for him! <G> )  He said all in all Hell Week was more chaotic than tough with the early wake up calls and the long days.  He scored a 5.0 on every inspection and test plus aced the PFA.  He thanks his brother who made him run every day for the two months he was in DEP and for his recruiter who made him do curl ups and push ups every week until he could do 60 each in under two minutes.  Has made PFA a "no problem"   He has no idea yet when he will be going to A school but he thought later rather than sooner but he really doesn't know. He just sounds so confident and certain.  I am bursting with pride......<G>  Maybe if the listening improves, they will get a phone call....one can always wish :D

Collar pieces would be the Collar device that the Recruit Petty Officers were wearing signifying their rank in the Division. :-(
BUT like we have mentioned before there is both positive and negative reinforcement in BC. Try not to worry, the devices were taken away but the positions may not have been. Removing all of the leadership would create chaos.

I hope that they did not get reduced to PT gear either. That's what brand new Recruits run around in...so that's the slam there. They nicknamed the PT gear Smurfs...for the all blue color.
I am sure their marching has improved...remember its snail mail so often info that you get is old news. :-)

Awesome philipmom!! I really hope the info in my letter is older than that because I would love a phone call! My SR said they lost their phone call because of their marching... The RDC's got "fed up" with their division and walked around to each of them and took their collar pieces (no idea what that is). Told them they had one more warning before they took their uniforms away and made them wear the sweats and t-shirts everywhere they go. I hope that didn't happen...

On a positive note, my SR has received perfect scores of 5 out of 5 on each of her tests/inspects and whatever else they are doing. :) -- She also said the marlin spike was interesting but hard to follow at first because they went through the demo so fast. She did great on that too! :)

There is a TON of info in there but I'll have to write more about it later. I drove home from work to check the mail and had to come back. It's a 30 min ride each way if that tells you how impatient I am!

Ship 12 Div 331...Got a letter!  My SR sounds GREAT!  Bchris, he said that he thinks they can make a phone call this week.  His letter was dated 8/11 (his birthday-sniff)  Hope you all hear from your SRs today too!

Bchis, here is a website the explains it.  A- schools give the Sailor a broad overview of the job(rate).  C-school is a specialization in that rate (Not all rates have specialization).  The Navy fills its needs at permanent duty stations (ship and shore) based on those specializations.Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC).  You can send me a direct message if you have more questions.  Also, those C-schools are not necessarily located where the A-School is but the good news is they are always much shorter than A-school so your won't be separated as long! :-)
