~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Folks, I know I am not on as much as I used to be (just life right now) but I do try and go through the pages.
I am noticing some OPSEC and PERSEC (PERsonal Security) faux pas. :-)
Last names of Recruits/Sailors may not be posted on the N4M's website (as per the Community Guidelines). If your last name is the same as your Recruits PLEASE do not post your full name on here. That would be unsafe OPSEC. OPSEC is very real and important to out loved ones safety as a servicemember.
Let's say your last name is different from your SR's. PERSEC wise it's probably not a good idea either. These are PUBLIC groups and anyone may view all areas of the Group. So it's for your personal safety as well.
It's also not a good idea to post your personal email address or phone numbers.
Why are our PIR GROUPS Public?
Well, there are still many out there (even in this techno age) that do not feel comfortable posting on any social media (I know I didn't). If we close the groups, then they do not get valuable information. There have been many times that someone will be following along for the whole eight weeks and join at the very end...seen that a lot.
(The info for good OPSEC is up above under the CD Clock and in PAGES - underneath the MEMBERS Pictures- in the N4M CG's and OPSEC PAGE.)
No worries, just trying to help you out on your new life as support for you and your future Sailors!
I am in both FB goups and here on Navy for Moms, I go back and forth from one to the other. Sharla is correct about posting in a private or closed group. the only people who can see what you post are people who are in that group. But you still need to be careful. I am one of the admins and we try and check everyone out to make sure they really have a recruit in boot camp but nothing is 100% safe, you still need to obey OPSEC rules here and on FB and the rules are posted on bot sites. Navy for Moms is dear to my heart but I love helping out in both groups. I just admitted a bunch from this PIR to the group if you didn't get in yet check your messages or your "other" messages to see if you got one from me and reply to it and I will add you as well. Sorry it took so long. I had a really hard day today. Found out my Sailor's hubby got his new orders and they will be going to California in the spring and I took it pretty hard. It is a long and expense trip from the east coast and I just feel like someone is ripping my baby granddaughter out of my arms :( I will be okay it is just going to take some getting used to.
I would like to thank all the Veteran Members! This sight has been a blessing for me. I appreciate having a place to go with others that understand what I am going through.
I post in both places, FB and here, and both have great info. Both have support, and I bookmark both and go back and forth every day. :) I will say that the facebook page for our PIR group is a closed group, and other FB friends and family cannot see what I post there. I love all the support from both these venues....I wouldn't make it through this without all of you!
Ok, ScoobyDoo. I wondered about that. Because if a SR is delayed for any reason, that changes plans. Hopefully yours will be right on track so no issues!
I hate that they can only send letters on Monday.
I went to the group and submitted/applied/registered...whatever the term is...this morning and am still waiting, but yes, as a closed group it is one that you can't find, but can be invited to or be given the link to. One step up from the 'secret' group that you can ONLY be invited to!
I used the Ace rentacar website that was on the brochure we got, using the GF promo code it was very$29/day. And can be cancelled.
