For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Lynn on August 1, 2013 at 6:22pm: Come home!! Kills me. He just called me and sounds good. But said taking it day by day. He passed every test so far and ranked up already. Teeth are good so no wisdoms coming out. Hang in there as I am trying to myself. But I too been sick with worry...

And to make matters worse, the day I've been so looking forward to, for a letter, came, and it was one paragraph written right after they were IT'd on Saturday night in full uniform and boots, saying how much she wants to be anywhere but there. That's it. I've waited a week for this. And now no phone call either? I want to throw up right now, honestly. My heart hurts.

Comment by ProudNavyDad on August 1, 2013 at 6:11pm: Zach's Mom -- they will build him up to speed. It's not unusual for many of the guys not to be at the run time the first time through. Have him check for a guy named Nick in his division from California. Nick is our son's best friend and encouraged (and pushed) our son to work out before our son went to boot camp. He's a good guy to help motivate another recruit.

Comment by ScoobyDoo Ship 14 Div 335 on August 1, 2013 at 4:37pm: YAY!! just got off the phone (27min) with my SR, she sounds so much better and is doing great! Passed her inspections and her first test. She is rocking it! So proud!

What a difference hearing her voice does, she sounded like her old self, upbeat and excited!!

My heart is happy :)

I asked about his wisdom teeth and then the call was over - he just said things were getting very intense. He did say he would try better to write more (I've only gotten 1 letter). as much as I would love to hear from him I told him it's more important to focus on all he needs to do for success...promised I would keep writing! I'm in school working on my Masters...the last 2 classes I have spent writing him a letter. Haha, I feel like i'm back in high school sneaking writing a letter during class - lol!

In regards to the running, I used to run and the key is to not start off at a fast pace. You will run out of steam at the end. If he can start off at a steady pace and not think about how long he will be running he will keep his endurance up. I used to run the mile in school under 7 min but I never thought about the finish line. As far as the push ups, with time he will ad another one to his count. I have faith he will prevail . They will all support him!!!

Comment by zachsmom94 (Ship 3 DIV 338) on August 1, 2013 at 4:10pm: I finally got a letter. He said he didn't do so well on his inspection or his physical test. He said he did 90 sit ups in 2 min, but could only do 18 push ups and was a minute late for the run portion. I'm hoping he is talking about the first time they got tested on all of this, cuz I'm not sure when and/or how often they get tested. He asked for some "tips," can anyone help with this? I would greatly appreciate it!!
