Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

We got a phone call tonight too!  He said he still is doing fine.  My husband and I were in two different places so he talked a bit to his dad, his girlfriend then called me so we all got to visit a little bit with him.  I picked up in his voice that he has the crude.  Said a lot of them in the Div has it.  Says he had 3 wisdom teeth pulled and was swollen a couple of days but is better now.  Asked for family pictures as well as asked me to check his checking account he has been able to use his debit card to make the phone calls. Said the calling card was charging him so many minutes to make the call that it is all used up.

We got a phone call tonight but did not get too much information about what's going on except that he's concerned his girlfriend might not be able to attend graduation.  He spoke to her too tonight so I guess phone privileges were generous today.  Tried to alleviate his worries but I know there's only so much this momma can do...  I did reach out to his girlfriend after his phone call to offer she could share our hotel room & we can provide local transporation for her; she was appreciative.   I will follow up with another letter to SR.  If it's meant to work out it will.  Just wish he wasn't so upset.

Although I didn't learn much from this phone call  I did "hear" in his voice that he's healing well from last week's wisdom teeth removal.  When he called last weekend he sounded tired.  He sounded fine today.

Oh I really miss my son .Its getting harder and harder each day not hearing from him.

:) -- She was able to call back! Talked for 14 min! She said that if they score well on some test that is coming up, they get to have an hour phone call but she said, "I won't hold my breath." She said that her div is very divided and doesn't work well together. :/ -- Hope that changes soon... BC gets easier with teamwork... but much harder without it.

She also told me that this was the last time I would hear her voice until the "I'm a sailor." call. I'm not happy about that.

My SR just got a 30 second phone call. She said that they got done late and didn't have very much time... It was nice to hear her voice.

Comment by diannep on July 31, 2013 at 8:36pm

NO care pkgs, taptap....however, families can send contacts/small bottle of solution (for PIR) if SR requests that.  Anything larger than a regular envelope/letter will have to be opened in front of the RDCs....thick letters too.

SouthernCalimom:  Sometimes they can try again if all have called and there is still time....I hope he can call back!
