Forgive me! Dyl's Mom (the real Shelly - oh dear, I messed up names and kids and ships and ...... sorry!). I thought Dylan was still in school .... but d o posted about her son being on the Enterprise and d o morphed into Dyl's mom .... and Dylan ended up on a ship ...... and yikes it was all crazy in my head today. I really do truly know the difference. I wish we were all using real names. My real name is Angela and I've being using AJ since I was 16 working at a Ben Franklin store and needed to write my initials on checks that I took at the cash register. My middle name and our last name starts with a J ........ and with Aaron also being an 'A' - decided to use AJ here as both of us. Silly, I know. So, anyway, d o, You have one on the Enterprise. d o - how does he like it? And Dyl's Mom - you would have loved Colorado today! I can't blame Dylan for being ready to be finished with GL, with or without all the extra moving around. This picture of Yogi is unbelievably adorable - you must be having so much puppy fun. Too cute!
d o and Mary ..... thank you, thank you, and thank you for your understanding and kind comments (I am confident that I'm not the first mother this has happened to - just new territory for me and my son) ..... I did get out in the sunshine today .... 65 degrees here with that blue, blue Colorado sky and clear foothills with the white caps of the Rockies behind ..... gotta love it. And I dropped into Whole Foods to grab a turkey wrap for lunch and they were giving away free roses ..... so I have a lovely pink rose sitting here beside me.
So Shelley (your son is already deployed then, right)? Wow. It is funny to think of Mary with her rubber hammer and that guy receiving a dose of her feistiness! Oh my goodness!
Wish you guys really were here for some margaritas in the sunshine just now!
62 degrees in Colorado, I wish I were there. It's about the same in Florida. AJ I'm with you. That S***s, I don't cuss much so fill in the blanks. We watched Carrier on PBS. I was all excited about what they call a Tiger Cruise for families after that, thinking there might be some positives to this Navy thing (besides a job and a paycheck). My bubble was burst when my sailor's friend on the...dare I say it...Enterprise, said, "no way do I want my family there, do you know how stressful it is to have to do your shift and then still contend with your family?!" Hopefully through this cruise your sailor will learn that Mom is everything...there from the beginning to the end and all the in between parts. Then he'll be sure to invite you on the Tiger Cruise.
Mary Rubber hammers and cars, are you kidding me? What did that bum do when you hit him? Speaking for the pharmacy rep and a former recovering footinmouth disease advocate...that was mean...great timing though.
Is this a little like .......... "My parents went to the Grand Canyon and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" ......... ?!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!
I will find my gratitude for what will be a beautiful sweater. But you guys know how much I want to be there today!
Good morning! I am having such a conflict of feelings today. Today is Family Cruise Day in San Diego for Aaron's ship. Of course I'm bummed (depressingly, big time bummed) that I'm not there. The N4M's group for the ship has been going crazy as people have geared up for being there for today.
He just called me as the day is kicking off. It is a gorgeous day there today and there are a lot of people. I'm thinking that he might be feeling kind of bad that he preferred me not to come .... seeing what a big deal it is .... and all the families there ...... and maybe, just maybe, he had read it all wrong. In any event, he did think to call me and wanted to send me a blue sweater that has the name of his ship on it .... wanted to know what size. I am touched that he thought to do this ..... and still feeling the bruising of not being there. So it is one of those back and forth mom moments ....... and I just feel like crying.
At least it is a beautiful day here in Colorado .... sunny .... going up to 62. I will get out and about and soak up some rays.
Once I get past today, I'll post some of my stories and catch up with you guys. It's a great distraction to be reading yours! For those of you that receive the daily Navy news blurbs .... I am astonished at how many ships are deploying right now. The beginning of the year must be part of the cycle.
Enjoy your day ...... I have to go find another kleenex. :`````(
Haha, thanks D O.!
& mary, that car story about herman just made me bust up!
i'm getting a car here soon & i might be getting a stick shift..which i have not the slightest clue of how to drive, so daddy is lettin me drive the "big boy truck" as he calls it until i figure it out:)
...i like that truck...ALOT...y'think i have a chance in convicing him to let me have the truck?!?!? LOL.
Oh how irritating. I just typed a bunch and then pulled a spazz moment and just shut the page down. Grrrrr.........
So I'll start again.
Good Morning Ladies... I so love the stories... keep them up.Share funny ones, touching one, whatever. It helps us all get to know one another just a little bit better. =)
DO - LMAO on the Peggy Bundy incident. I've unfortunately done things like that too, so don't feel to bad. I believe I lack a filter that prevents me from just blurting out what's on my mind at the moment. Yep, tasted a lot of foot in my life so far.... Thanks for the great laugh. I too heard the Navy is making boot camp longer. Supposedly it's to accommodate the group(s) that have need of more special training and so that the groups can all graduate together. Or something like that. On how I feel. On top of the world, baby!!! Mentally I'm so there, but physically it's gonna take some time to for the side effects to wear off. But, I don't have to go back. Monday I have my ultrasound for my ovarian cyst and I will be making my genetics apt. today. So far all is good. =)
Nicole - the more I learn about you the more respect I have for you. You are my poster child for a strong, determined, optimistic, healthy, beautiful, young lady. Keep it up. You future is what you make of it and I have no doubt you will live a great life. I'm happy to that you have so many hero's. It shows that you value the people in your life for their strengths. Anyhow, rock on baby!!!!
Mary - Novel my a$$. Lol... I love that you were a Daddies girl. It's a beautiful bond, not unlike what a Mother feels for her son. Just gave me the warm fuzzies, that's all. Very, Very, Cool! The diet I'm starting soon is called "Cinch" by Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD. It is basically removing most of the sugar and processed foods from your diet. My sister(s) did the HCG diet and my middle sister Rose lost like 12 - 15 lbs and her husband lost close to 20 I think. I think it's a great instant start, but for sustainability it seems too restrictive. Anyhow, Congrats on loosing 12 lbs. Let us know how the Atkins diet works for you and I'll keep you posted to the Cinch diet. Lol... Hopefully dieting won't make us too cranky. Oh and sounds like your daughter is super motivated. That's awesome!
Okay - Nana story. Every year, Mom would pack us girls all up into the Packard and drive us from Ashland, Oregon to Napa, California to visit my grandma (Mom's side), Aunts and Uncles (all 4 of her siblings lived close) and the 13 grandkids. We'd all gather together, while the football game played on the TV (my Nana was a big football fan), and laughed and ate and just had a great time together. Nana also had these chocolate chip cookies that weren't flat or round. When she made them they were thick and weird shaped, but so delicious. Nana also smelled great. She was a big advocate for Avon and always had some nice smelling perfume on. The one I identify the most with was Ben Hur. She also always wore a pastel colored sweater. Nana could take any crowd and turn it into a party. When I was having difficulties as a teen, she took me in and let me stay with her. My regret is that I wasn't the best house guest, but she still loved me anyhow. She was strong and beautiful and I miss her so much still today. It's funny how some people just get you and are there for you and love you unconditionally. That's something that didn't happen very much for me as I grew up. So my Nana and Grandfather are my hero's. I only hope that someday when I'm a grandparent I can be 1/2 the people they were. RIP.
Anyhoo... that's probably the most depressing thing I've written. Sorry.
Anyone have a new "subject" they'd like to inspire us to write about? Maybe we could do my first car, most embarassing moment, favorite comfort foods..... whatever.
Well, still no news from Haley. She's been spending a lot of time with Travis, and it's the hurry up and wait thing. I should hopefully have flight information Friday or Monday. She'll be home soon! Yay, yay, yay.... life is good.
Well have a fabulous Thurdays one and all. Keep the stories coming. =)
Okay, Peg Bundy! She's been coming up a lot in my conversations and now on here. Here's the scoop. I went to a bridal shower and sat by a woman who had just gone to a costume party earlier that month. She showed me the pictures on her phone. She was a perfect Peg Bundy, she even got the wig. I looked at her and asked where she got all that padding for her pants.......she gave me the strangest look. When she stood up I understood why.......I'm still trying to get my foot out of my mouth!,......and I'm sure my Peg Bundy would look even bigger!
Sondra, sorry I forgot the question and everyone else-I love the postings but I don't think I'll remember all this stuff if we ever meet in Colorado.
Nicole, did the Navy start a 13 week bootcamp? Don't tell me we're all going to have to do battle stations all over with you! I've be watching for blue candle clearances.
AJ, When I started going to all the schools, my boy said, "Mom you're just doing that to spy on me! I'll be embarrassed if everyone see my mommy at school with me!" I told him I would go by Mrs. O and know one would even know. Sometimes he would be in the same room with me and never make eye contact. Of course he always seemed to find me when he wanted something. Why can we just be happy to be with each other without all the drama?!
Iris, I'm glad you rebelled against your dads way of life. It is always such a joy to hear your optimism. I know this transition can be as difficult as the treatment. It is here anyway. I pray you are feeling better and stronger than you even thought you could when you were in the middle of it. Have you noticed a difference yet or is it still like all the other weeks? You are an inspiration to us all!;)!
