Good News ladies... the dance is back on.=) Apparently his duty is to be the driver for the OOD (Officer On Duty) who is going to the ball, so they can still go. She promised pics, so I'm hoping she will deliver. I'll share more tomorrow after I chat with her. I'm so glad it all worked out.

Good Morning Ladies!!!

Yay look at all this chatter. How fun. You are my girls don't ya know. Lol.... =)

AJ - Mmmmm.... Blueberry Muffins!

Hurley - Congrats!!!! that is fantastic. Master at Arms Seaman. Brave Zulu Sailor! How sweet someone took pics for you. And I'm oh so happy for you. You get your son soon. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy... Even doing his laundry is going to seem like heaven. Lol.... Can't wait to hear about all the hugs and laughter you guys are going to share. =)))

Lyn - Lol.. the tour of the store was fun. I'm such a big dork. Lol.... Glad you get to skype with you son. I know what a comfort it is to see them while you talk. =) You can hit me up anytime if you need to. The offer doesn't have a time limit. =)

Mary - great video. Everything seems to make me weepy these days (I'm blaming the nasty drugs) and this really touched me. =) Thanks for sharing it.

So we have bad news. H. text me yesterday and said T (bf) has duty during the ball. She is really bummed. I suggested they go out to dinner after the ball and not let this spoil their evening of dressing up. I haven't heard back yet so I'm not sure what the alternative plan is. Poor thing, I know she was really looking forward to this. At least she wasn't going on her blind date tonight. That would of been worse, cause then she wouldn't have met T. =)

I'm scheduled to skype with her tomorrow evening so I'll fill you all in on what transpired.

Rearranging closets so I need to get back at it. =)

Have a great weekend everyone. Especially those with their sailors home. Hugs!!!

Thanks for all the good wishes for my kiddo y'all. He's rolling with it which is nice to see. Lessons learned etc etc...that which does not kill us makes us stronger...blah blah blah :-) ALL of us on here are experiencing interesting new things as we launch them out into the world on their own.

You know what? I am so much more sympathetic to my own parents now that I'm experiencing the launch. I am sure my folks despaired of me at many points (ie: what the heck is she doing working retail when we just paid for that degree?)and yet somehow, it's all turned out fine.

Congrats Hurley - another hurdle cleared! Iris - my husband and I would call touring a new super market a good date night too :-) And thank you so much for the offer of a place to stay. Given all that's gone before I'm pretty sure the moment I book plane tickets to San Diego he'll get deployed! AJ - skype is my best friend these days. Even if we can't video call we can still instant message on it pretty regularly.

LynB, sorry your about your son's disappointment but i bet things work out for him! These things always happen for a reason and sometimes in hind sight, they wouldn't change a thing!
CONGRATS Hurley! too cool! i know he's worked really hard for it! wow! time sure is flying!
Iris, funny about your son! that cracks me up! i'm sure he really didn't know what to say, huh?! pics are a must for the marine ball! can't wait to see! i hope she has a great time!

Mrs. B, i can't believe how rudely you've been treated! what's up with that? it's embarrassing to think our Navy acts the way they do. i'll guarantee that's not what the majority of them learn at home. i would say they need manners lessons but don't really think the military cares if our sailors say "please, and thank you" huh? you would think they would at least recognize a woman being present and shut their traps!

Guess what??? Matthew is officially MASN! Master at Arms Seamen. He graduated this morning badge and all! One of the guys family was there and took pictures with Matts camara for us, so nice of them. He had to change his tickets also to fly home and had to pay 130 difference. If he wanted to fly into Palm Beach it would have been 250$ more! Just don't understand all this. He and another guy are getting a room by the Airport tonight and splitting it plus the taxi from the base to the hotel. Then because he fly out so early and the shuttles don't run that early, he has to pay for another taxi to the Airport! Well, I guess it could be worse, everything can always be worse, some guys didn't get their hard orders and can't fly out till monday, hopefully! Tomorrow is my youngests Birthday, he will be 24. So we will have a party here for him tomorrow night and then next saturday one for Matt... welcome home party. I have been cleaning Matts old room (he hasn't lived in it for 8 years!) which recntly my youngests old room (he just moved in with his Fiancee) boy oh boy, the dust! Just thought Matt would be more comfortable in his old room and not the guest room but I should have started this project a month ago! I don't want him getting all "Navy" on my housekeeping..hehe.

Iris, that is just so funny about what you did to your son. I remember those days, infact I still could still be a mother hen. You need to get pictures of H and her new BF! We want to see! I am happy your Mother is doing well after her stroke. Mine was small and really was out of the blue, I am a very healthy person, great blood and I am only 105lbs. Nothing out of the ordinary so you just never know. I did have head trauma about 6 years ago but that's all been resolved. Matt's chief was pretty concerned about him going to BC so soon after but I went in and told the chief I was fine. All was ok and don't keep him from going cause of me. See and it all worked out! Everything could have been worse. I could never complain.

AJ thank you so much for your kind words. I know how it is to go through what you re going through with your head trauma. It's not easy when you are trying to explain something and it just won't come out rright, people aren't patient and don't realize what you've been through. They only see what's on the outside and that can look very normal but what's in your head isn't. Hmmmm, does that make sense? Oh, I am going to warn Matt about the bag check fee and tell him to go to the counter not the kiosk. He won't be in uniform either. He is also fly AA, not crazy about them with all the charges to our military.

LynB, my nephew who is a Navy doctor is in San Diego and he loves it there. The weather is great and so much to do and see. I know you are not close now but maybe after this tour he will get to be in your neck of the woods and like AJ said there is skype, but I understand, nothing like the real deal.

Mrs. B, Matt said they would try some of the chants from BC when they would march but they would all knock it down when the AROC would start and just do some very generic chant. They marched alot with full gear at his "A" school. I think they were all just too hot and sweaty to put too much effort into the chant, maybe.

You all here have been so great for me, words just can not discribe it! I just don't think I could have gotten through all this on my own the way I did. N4M's you all rock!!!!

MY SON IS COMING HOME TOMORROW!!!! HOOYAH!!!!!

Have any of you ladies had any of your Sailors complain about some of the "chants" they have to march to? I don't wanna say what I heard a group yelling out yesterday, but it was quite disturbing. I'm just wondering if the GL's base is a little more crude than the other bases.

LynB - another disappointment for your son and for you. I am so sorry that these unfortunate events keep happening for him. I hope he is able to continue showing that resiliency that you've seen before. San Diego is a great spot to be and I hope he can enjoy the extra time there and find a way to put that time to good use for himself. It is so hard to keep trusting that something better might be coming his way - but I sincerely hope so! I hope the time passes quickly for you between now and May when you can visit the States and see him. Is he skyping with you any? I'm working on A to help him to understand how helpful that will be for me to be able to see his face when he is able to talk and use skype.

I have another lesson learned that I will share with the group - let me know if passing these little bits along is a pain in the you know what! So, I shared that I was surprised that American Airlines had charged A for checking his sea bag and duffle bag - $60. I looked it up online and that was an error, as they are allowed 3 checked bags if they are flying on a military ticket (with orders). I called AA this morning and they are refunding the $60 immediately. The problem was this: He checked in at the kiosk at the airport and didn't go to the counter. So no one saw him in his dress blues to say hey young man, you don't have to pay for those bags and he just put in his bank card and thought it was a crappy deal. Moral of the story - have your Sailor check his/her bags in with an agent in order to avoid being charged for any bags checked.

Iris - I love that you and your husband are so dedicated to your date nights. He is a handsome guy - your hubby. I remember you guys standing behind us as we walked into Graduation Hall. It is so important isn't it to keep the friendship part of your relationship alive and well too. Kudos to you both! And what an awesome example for your kids. Your story about your son was kind of funny - poor boy. I can just imagine that face so vividly as if he were my own kid. When I was in high school and would come home from a date - we would sit in the driveway and talk and yes, kiss, but nothing more (especially in the driveway!) -- and when my father thought we had been out there long enough, he would turn the outside light switch off and on and off and on and off and on and off and on -- it was so embarrassing - and I hated it. I'm so excited for H for the dance (er, ball) tonight. Looking forward to seeing her pictures.

Okay - I'm off to make some blueberry muffins for A. He loves them. Hope you all have a great day.

Good Morning ladies -

Aj - yes we did bomb on the lottery numbers, lol... So glad you have your son home. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. =) Love the pic and he is a very handsome young man. Bet with a smile on that face, he reels the ladies right in. =) Congrats on his deployment. Wow... sounds exciting. And I have to agree with how far we've come. I remember those days where I lived on this site for just a morsel of information. Now we are a bit calmer and understand how important having infinite patience is. Although, we may know it, but exercising it is still a work in progress. LOL.... =) Have a fabulous Thanksgiving. I can smell the pumpkin pie from here...

Hurley - Oh the picture issue is coming to a head. My sister gave H. a camera at graduation. We already pre-placed some interesting photo's on it of all of us for her convenience and enjoyment. =) Anyhow, she is suppose to be taking photos and posting them for us. This has not happened and now I'm having to bring out the big nagging guns. =) So sorry to hear of your health issues. My mom had a stoke last year and has recovered remarkably well. I hope you are doing the same. It's frustrating when your abilities are taken away or compromised. I suppose it just makes us stronger. =) Good luck with our lotto numbers. I might play them again too if I remember to do it. Have a really fantastic Thanksgiving on the 14th. We have moved ours to the 27th due to my treatments. Lord knows when Christmas will be, but I don't care as long as I have my daughter home for at least one holiday. Who knows about next year. I day at a time =)))))

LynB - Hi! Sorry your son didn't get what he wanted. but I hear San Diego is a dream spot weather wise. You know you are always welcome to come to my neck of the woods and meet up with him if you need too. I'm at lest on the right side of the country. I can provide a place for you two to stay free and some descent food. It must be difficult being so far away. Anyhow, you are welcome anytime. =)

No news from the girl. That's the down side to a boyfriend. Lol.. I'll take it as long as she's happy. Anyhow, tomorrow is the Marine Ball. She darn well get some pictures of the two of them dressed up. He'll be in his dress blues (DROOL...) and she is wearing a hot little black dress. I bet they will look fantastic together.

Oh had a funny to tell you. So yesterday my son's work calls and says he is suppose to be working 4 - 9. Well after school he was going to be working out and then head over to his girlfriends till about 7 pm. Anyhow, I tried to call him to let him know but just got his voice mail. Now my son tends to live with his phone, so this was odd. I tried for an hour and a half and then decided to go over to the girlfriends and give him the message in person, since he wasn't answering his phone. My husband thought it would be fun to come along. =) So we get there and they are watching tv on the sofa snuggling. No big deal. But he's a bit horrified at seeing us. That's the funny part and so worth the gas driving over their. Lol... My husband was kind enough to stay in the car, but just having his parents show up was not cool. He didn't get snotty or anything cause that would just egg us on, so he played it cool, but we could tell. Yes, we are evil parents with warped sense of humor. It's our duty to embarrass our children just as our parents did with us. =) The really bad part is that we sort of wished it would of been more embarrassing for him. Terrible, aren't we.

Well, time to go I have two hot dates today. One for lunch with my husband and the other is I'm taking him out tonight. We just had a Market of Choice come to our area and I have to show it to him. Yeah, you know your getting old when a new supper market becomes your destination for date night. Lol... If you've never heard of them before, look them up. Amazing selection of EVERYTHING. I was so overwhelmed I didn't get half of what was on my list.

Hugs to all and Happy Weekend Eve!!!

Ooo AJ - he got a ship! :-) Spoke to my kiddo yesterday briefly and he's a little bummed that he's working on boats rather than a ship (since he's with Seabees). And that they can't process his paperwork in time for him to deploy with his group in January. Which would have brought him much closer to my side of the world...I was already mentally booking plane tickets to go track him down since we won't be back in the USA for a visit til next May. The good news is he really likes San Diego and I'm sure your A will too.
Comment by AJ on November 4, 2010 at 6:20pm
Hi Hurley - A heads to his home port of San Diego and will join the USS Boxer, which is an amphibious assault ship. He is excited to be going and it sounds like they will deploy sometime early next year, or so I learned from the N4M site for that ship. I just found a website that lists publicly available details of his ship's various deployments, so it was interesting to read some of those, including the last deployment which was for 7 months.

Wow - I should connect with you about this head trauma stuff - and you went through a stroke and everything just before Matt left - I had no idea. Dear heart - I hope you are okay and that your prognosis is wholly optimistic. We could go into a whole other level of sharing here couldn't we? I just want to hug you again.

I just dropped A off at the recruiter's office and all of the DEPers were out doing their Thursday afternoon physical training - amazing how far we've come - even though we are still in the beginning.
