Morning!!! It's Friday. Woo Hoo....

AJ - yes I baked two loaves of zucchini spice bread and my son said he liked it, so I take it as a successful mission. LOL.... And thanks for the link.

Lyn B - Congrats on your son heading out to his ship. So exciting! Keeps us posted. =)

Mary - Lol... dang dog! Yep bread is baked, green curry made instead of taco's for dinner and now the rain has started and it's Willamette Valley gray. Ugh! It will stay like this almost all winter. That's why we take lots of Vitamin D here. Lol... I'm with you on hearing about the orders. So exciting that they are getting to get out there after all their training. =)

Update - laundry isn't done. I know you are all disappointed that I didn't get it finished, but I will today. =) Ha ha ha... I did get some things done on my list and my son and I got a couple of games of bowling in, which was fun. Now don't hate, but my high score was 123. =) Watch out professional bowling league.

Here's a shocker, I have nothing more to say. OMG!!! Relax, I feel fine, just not enough coffee or something yet, or maybe just maybe, my life is kind of dull. =

So I will make this one a short one. Everyone have a great weekend and I expect to hear all about the fun things you guys did by Monday.

Hugs!!!!

Morning All

Good to hear all the news from everyone !! Wow, so many are finishing up A school . D isnt done till end of January.
I had the twins parent-teacher conferences and all went well. They are doing great. We like to keep in touch with their teachers and hear about anything new coming up. Go to Roberts on Tuesday.
Robert is home again today with some pain but not unbearable. See, this is his frist year having surgeries in Middle School. Normally in elementary school we had him only go a half day the first week and then full time the next week. With Middle School, we were trying not to stay home or do half days cause of the work he would miss but if he says he is in discomfort, rest assured he is.
He has taken his meds and is laying down here on the couch. Here is my hero, taken on his bed at Shriners

All this talk about food is making me hungry lol. Im going to make some bread for the family this weekend in fact. Im LOVING this fall weather.
D called me last night and said that he will be home Dec 17-Jan 2 for Christmas while the school is shut down. He said he will be bringing some books home to study too. His GF is up in Great Lakes this weekend with him. This is the weekend he goes into Phase 2, so he can wear civilian clothes and as long as he doesnt have duty weekend ( Which he doesnt) , he doesnt have to be back until Sunday. He says he is just so glad to be able to get off base again.
Im looking forward to seeing him. Bad news was...the Marines just bought ( dont ask me what that means exactly) 600 billets for Corpsman, and Im not liking that cause his chances of going to Afghanastan just went up :((((((
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Ill try and pop in again in the next few days. Hugs to all
Have a Great Weekend Pictures, Images and Photos

Mary - what will Dereck's friend Daniel be doing? I'm not sure how many ships are based out of San Diego. Does anyone know the difference between 'underway' and 'out to sea'?
Comment by LynB on October 21, 2010 at 8:23pm
Thanks AJ! I book marked the page for Battalion 1 so I won't get too much email :-)

We're guessing he'll stay there until he either strikes a rate, or gets back into OCS which is what he's going to try to do.

Hi Lyn B! I've been intending to write you because I've been reading some of your postings over on the Undesignated Group. I know that your son has been through such a long series of changes and disappointments, but he sounds so together about it all and I'm glad to know that all is turning out really well for him. Will he stay put in Coronado for a while? I haven't started writing anything over on that group because I really don't know very much and don't have much to say - quite unlike over here, eh?

A is heading to San Diego to the USS Boxer (an amphibious assault ship), which should head to sea sometime early in 2011 (from what I've gathered that is benign enough information).

I think this link will get you in the ballpark of some of the information I'm receiving. Click into it and there are a couple of places that you can click for 'Get E-Mail Updates'. At some point in the sign up there should be a list of all the choices you have. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll try to retrace my own steps. http://www.navy.mil/swf/index.asp

Hi everyone. Love all the updates.

AJ - my undesg kiddo is on his way to Coronado/San Diego to join Seabee Battalion 1...where's yours going? He reports on Tuesday and is visiting friends in Phoenix right now and plans to arrive early. He's had a conversation with someone in his platoon (?) and found out more about what he'll be doing and where they may be going and it's all good :-)

Also, can you share a link on where to sign up for that Navy Newsletter? Somehow I've missed that.

Cheers Mates! :-)

It was fast Iris - the amount of time A was in A School. While I'd love to say that it is just because he is so dang smart and all - (and that is also true) - it really is because as an undesignated, his schooling only goes through the first three modules of APACT training or something like that, covering basic seamanship. I'm guessing that once he strikes for a rate that he will get more training at either that A School, or on the ship, or who knows. When I try to get more information, he honestly doesn't seem to know much more himself. It appears that there are up some plusses and minuses to being undesignated. He doesn't seem to mind though and is very excited to be heading to his ship so soon.

Have any of you signed up for any of the daily Navy News. I've got some coming into my e-mail every day - some kind of cool to know - some good pictures of the day from all around the world - sometimes more info than I want to read, but that is easy to delete (not bad news or anything). I'm learning a lot. When there is so much that cannot be talked about, it is nice to be able to read what is publicly available - makes it seem better somehow.

I couldn't lay my hands on a digital copy of Mrs. Barlow for you today. A lot of my stuff is in storage (which is a whole other too-long-to-post-on-Navy-For-Moms-story), but if I can find her picture relatively soon, I will still post it later.

Ciao for now.

I wonder if Iris baked that bread today - or was that Mary? I now want some pumpkin bread with little bits of chocolate inside. I may need to do some baking myself.

Oh yeah! Morning Ladies. LOVE the posts.

Sandra - I'm so very sorry for your loss. At least you have your family and son with you. That has to be a great comfort. Hugs to you, you are in my thoughts.

Mary - LOL... Dereck sounds like he likes to shop and look good. My daughter just started liking to shop. For years I've been dragging her around to stores and just as I was getting started, she's be like... "are we done yet?". Ha ha ha... She has taught me so much, patience being one of them. =) Great job to Dereck on his scores. Yahoo! Now food ideas: Breads are easy to ship and hold up well. Like bananna , zucchini or lemon bread. Plus they fill them up. =)

Nicole - I hope her blind date goes well too. She isn't the best at acting if it doesn't. Brutally honest might be used as well. LOL....

DO - That's too funny. Sometimes my typing and brain really aren't in synch so my writing is a bit confusing. You should hear half of what I don't write. Ha h ahah....

Dyl's Mom - 3 boys, Wow! That's great. I love my boy and girl. So thankful for both experiences. Cracking up and really sweet about describe how it is to have a daughter. Oh throw in a few melt-downs too... lol. I feel love for both my kids, but in different ways. I think as a female I might of been harder on Haley only because I could relate to what she was feeling and wanted her to be able to handle her experiences in the great big world.

Maureen - So happy to hear Robert is doing better. You know the sad part about him taking up tennis is that soon he will be better than you guys. =) I actually got to skip my parent/teacher conferences this year cause my son is doing fantastic. Very proud mamma.

AJ - Wow that was fast. He's graduating already. Glad you will have him home. I'm sure he will enjoy San Diego. My mother-in-law had her alternative cancer treatment there and raved at how beautiful it was. I'm sorry you may not have him home for the holidays though. That's tough. I'm planning on making my holidays when H. comes home. I don't care what the calendar says, it all about having my family together. I loved your story about Mrs. Barlow. You are one special, loving, giving, wonderful lady and I'm honored to know you. =)

So not much else going on today. Laundry, go to the store to get a smores donation for my Marines, make some zucchini bread (Mary - thanks for making think of it), do a photoshoot at 1600 with a friend of H.'s and then skype with my sister Rose at 1830. Then I'm sure my boys (son & husband) will be hungry, so Taco's it is (easy...). Sheesh - maybe it's more busy than I thought. I'm starting to sound a bit like Teaparty only not as selfless. I'm constantly amazed at the generosity of this group. That's one of the many reason's I don't want it to go away.

Well... since my day looks busy, I better shower and get started. Love ya all and hugs. Have a Fantastic day. =)))))

Oh and Maureen -- so glad that you are going to those parent / teacher conferences!!! I can't believe what I am hearing in the news about possible legislation to jail parents who do not attend parent / teacher conferences. I do believe in attending conferences - but this is craziness.

And one last thing I heard on the news this morning. One travel consultant said that between now and the holidays, it was possible to see airfare go up almost $5 a day between now and then - so best to book as soon as you can if you will be traveling.

Okay I promise to restrain myself from posting anything more for at least a little while today.
