Mary! Your on-the-table-hilarious honesty and perspective cracks me up. I can't enough write down all of your one liners that make me smile. I was with you though about H choosing 'Door No. 2' - where the real prize might be waiting! We are soooo dating ourselves though with this 'Door No. 2' and 'Mystery Date' talk. Dyl's Mom - I had not thought about Mystery Date in years and years. And like you Dyl's Mom, having only sons, it is refreshing and kind of special to read about the mother / daughter postings by Iris. I wonder sometimes if I missed out on something in not having a girl - but I do know that my boys have been such a light of my life - so no complaints from me. Nice to read it all though.

Maureen - you and Jerry have some great kids - and such a testament to who you are as parents. Robert continues to inspire me each time you post.

Sondra - my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family for this loss. I'm glad that Eric was able to come home - albeit under these heartbreaking circumstances - but especially since they were that close. He needs to be able to say his goodbyes.

Iris - please ramble, ramble, ramble. Apparently there are quite a few of us who appreciate you and all that you share with us. The Marine Ball sounds like fun and all of us 'aunties' here will be curious to know how it turns out.

So, A graduates from A School this coming Monday. He thought he would be coming home on Tuesday for 10 days of leave before heading to San Diego. Apparently the paperwork takes a bit longer to process and the office that does that has 8 days to do so. So sometime within 8 days of Monday, he'll be heading home to Colorado. I can't wait to cook some of his favorite food. We will also do Thanksgiving early, as he will head to SD before the holiday. While he will be in SD for Christmas (on his ship), I'm not holding my breath thinking that I will get to see him. If it works out that I do, that will be amaaaazing.

There was only one Christmas in years past (right after divorce) that I didn't see either of my sons. I remember that day like it was yesterday. It was not easy, no not at all. That day, I bought Christmas presents and prepared a Christmas meal to go for an elderly lady in Boulder who I met through delivering Meals on Wheels. She had a home, well let's say a standing building, with no electricity or water. The house was full of trash, years of hoarding things, and mice. You could barely walk through it. It was a mild day for Colorado, so I took a folding table, two chairs, a thermos of hot chocolate, presents, and food to Mrs. Barlow - and we set it all up outside. The sun was shining - oddly her house was in a picturesque part of Boulder with an incredible view of the Flatirons (foothills of the Rockies). We sat and ate and talked. It was so much fun to watch her open presents. She said she had not done that in years. I gave her snow boots, a scarf, gloves, hat, and a coat. She turned out to be such a blessing. Her hands were crusty and black from not having been washed in goodness knows how long. Her hair long and scraggly. She had nothing, absolutely nothing ----- but boy did she smile - everyday, not just that day. She made a comment to me that day about 'how could she NOT be happy -- look at the day - look at the mountains - look at the blue sky and sunshine. That was all she needed. I will never forget not having my boys on that Christmas Day, but I will also never forget that day with Mrs. Barlow. I don't know why I shared all of that just now - but rather than deleting it like I have been thinking about - I will choose to go ahead and send it. We have some holidays ahead that will be a mix of some of us seeing our Sailor and some of us not. I know that we will be there for each other. This is just another way that I cope. When it is really hard, I try to focus outside of me rather than inside of me. It always seems to help.

I may go and try to find a picture of Mrs. Barlow and if I can find it, I will post it for you. I feel like I could keep writing and writing this morning. But I've probably filled up the whole length of the column with this, so should stop for now.

I wish I could invite you all over for Sunday brunch and we could chat and laugh and have some lovely mimosas! Hugs to you guys.

Gooood Morrrrrrning All!

I have some catching up to do. I've been hijacked this week by paperwork. I need to read and makes some notes to respond to all of this wonderful news. See you in a bit. :)

Morning Everyone !!

Hope this finds you all well. Things here are pretty good. Robert is feeling A ok and went to school today !! I did let him go to his art class yesterday even though he didnt go to school. He was feeling great and thats one of the few things he has found to do since all his surgeries. Dr did say though when Robert asked him what sports could he play, that he could do swimming and tennis. So now we are looking into Tennis. Jerry and I play ( If you want to call it that lol but we try)...its good to just get out and get some exercise.
Sondra...so sorry to hear that your step dad passed away but glad that your sailor has been home to be with you.
I dont think that D will be able to come home for Thanksgiving. He will save his leave for Christmas time. I hate that he wont be here, wont be the same and thats my favorite holiday. Wish we could go up there for a few days but thats when Jerrys peak time at the airport starts. Never know, we'll see :)
Gotta get movin and groovin this morning and clean and do laundry. Gotta get allergy shots this afternoon and have parent teacher conferences.
Take care all and have the best day you can have :)
have a great thursday Pictures, Images and Photos

Maureen, glad Robert is doing well! Always better when they go through stuff like that at a young age. Darick had 3 eye surgeries by the time he was in kindergarten and bounced right back. Can't say it would be the same now that he's older.
Iris, i love your rants and hearing about your daily life, especially the things with your daughter. i have 3 boys so don't really know much about what it would be like to have a daughter. It cracks me up sometimes and other times, it's really sweet. Can't wait to hear about her Mystery date! Ha! Does anyone remember that ancient board game? I can't believe I do!

Sondra, so sorry to hear your bad news. I hope everything is ok with you and Eric is doing better. That's never a good reason to have to come home!

Mary, i think you need to open up your own used "Pac Sun" store! Dereck could probably fill the place with all his clothes! ha!

Iris, when I 1st read your post, I thought her date was female. The dress sounded so much better when I realize he wasn't.LOL

Morning Ladies. I'm going to try to post every morning so unless you just want to hear me ramble on about my exciting life (cough, sputter, ha ha...) then you better give me something to respond to. =)

Mary - That is really funny! I could just see us having a great time and our kids just sitting there shaking their heads in dismay to our juvenile behavior. Lol... what fun!

Maureen - sorry Roberts feeling bad today. Thank heavens for pain meds. Sometimes when they get to feeling pretty good they over do it and regret it the next day. Yeah, don't ask me how I know.. Lol... Being young, he will rebound from surgery much faster than you or I would. Not that I'm calling you old. Ah the old shoe tastes sooooo.... good. Here's to his quick recovery. =)

Howdy Dyl's Mom - How are you and what's the latest from your Sailor?

Morning DO! =)

Okay, so I chatted with H. yesterday and she said she has a blind date for the Marine Ball. YES!!! She is being set up by a female Marine she met with a "nice guy". Hmmmm.... the mystery is killing me. I want details, but she's got nothing. Lord, you should of heard me trying to get her to describe her dress.

"Well, it's black and falls below my knees." - Ummmm, strappy, rhinestones, pleated, DETAILS darling! Lol.. She just doesn't really register that stuff. Don't worry, I have skills and got it out of her. I had her describe every detail of the dress (which is supper cute), shoes, and the jewelry she is going to wear. Lol... Now if it was a bird she was describing, no problem. LOL...

Anyhow, she is doing well with her classes, hitting the mall with friends, and really enjoying her life. It makes me feel so happy that she is happy. =)))))

My son is back with his first girlfriend that dumped him and then sort of kept him as "a friend" but really it was more like keeping him as a back up boyfriend. I call it like I see it. She's sweet, young and cute as a button. Oh, did I mention, a petite blond. Yeppers! Lol...It's fun to watch them figure it out. Only I dislike the heart ache part. My husband is trying to give him pointers, but to Cody they seem kind of harsh. Imagine that? Lol...

Ahhh... the good old days of high school. NOT! I wouldn't go back if you promised I would be popular, beautiful and rich.

Okay, must shower for doctors apt. Woo Hoo... I get to go complain to him that chemo stinks. I'm sure he's never heard that before. =) No worries, I'm keeping my sense of humor turned up to high and if I'm lucky, he'll prescribe some happy pills for me for when I'm on my 5 day drudgery.

Have a fabulous day and please, write something so we don't have to listen to my rambling. =)))))

Hugs to all.

I have had my sailor home since Saturday. My stepdad past away thursday so we got to get Eric home to be palbearer. Just wish it could have been better circumstances. He took it pretty hard as they spent alot of time together but we will get through this.
