Hurley, your 2nd going into BC brought back a flood of emotions for me. My foster son went in 1st and I could hardly get through it. However he came out such a better man for it, that sending my youngest didn't phase me as much. I did cheat with the letter writing with my youngest though. Now that's it's over, I guess I can tell you how.
My foster son didn't want anything to do with the Bible since he was to much of an intellectual for that. (Or so he thought). As he was walking out of meps, I handed him the camo New Testament and told him to think of me when he looked at it. He ended up reading the whole thing in BC, and boy did he pray!
So I got another camo Bible and started underlining things like, "If God is for us, who can be against us." "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." You know the really encouraging stuff. Then I started writing in the margins things like; "You are strong and brave, you can do this". I had months to work on it. So when the youngest left meps, I handed him the book and said think of me when you see this. He had already found the notes in the plane ride up to Great Lakes.
I so proud of all the sailors and service men in this group. Mrs. B, you too are brave and strong!, along with all you moms!
Morning Ladies -
Proud - That's so funny how little patience they have (hmmm... kind of like all of us). Glad your daughter will be getting on with the show though.
AJ - You are such a sweet heart. I love flowers too. I'm so glad your son is finally coming around. Nice to know your appreciated. Now you can really enjoy making those care packages when you know he is really looking forward to them. =)
Mary - Glad D is appreciating you too. Wow all these independent boys finally seeing Mom for what she is. Wonderful, stupendeous, marvelous, fabulous... I could go on. =) Bar fight! Wow, how exciting. Too funny about the "Oh shit Sailors" though. Shame on them about their covers, maybe they were distracted by the fight?
DO - you are too funny. I suppose I'm a little prejudice about Iris's. Lol... but they really are an interesting flower to photograph. Glad the photo's help brighten your day. 4 hours in the eye clinic sounds like hell to me.
Hurley - MEPS, sigh! What memories. We will be your CoastGuard4Mom's. 5 weeks is going to feel really long, so we'll do our best to keep you distracted. We are here for you. Hugs
Mrs. B - YAY! Today. =))))
Well not much to report. I have a long, long, long list to I'm going to scoot. So happy to share your lives with you. I'm glad we've kept going. Although I'm sure one day, we will all go our separate ways, but until then. Yay... hugs and RSL!
Gotta get. Have a great Wednesday.
Today is supposed to be the "Big Day" with Paul's discharge. I'm waiting for him to call me to come to the PSD office to set up our move. Anyways. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and we'll begin our lives as civilians again. I'm happy and sad, but I know this is for the best. We're really getting involved in our church and we're really hoping to stay in San Diego no matter what. Paul had two interviews yesterday and they're supposed to call him for his 3rd and final interview at Fry's Electronics. They are pretty sure they're going to hire him. They normally start people out with stocking, etc, but they told him that he was so good at knowing his electronics, that they wanted to start him right out in Sales, which brings in about $250 a week in commission, besides his normal pay. :) So I think we'll be doing just fine. Might be tight for a little bit, but we're going to do well. :) Blessings to all of you!
Praying for Marc! Let us know if we can write him. I'd be glad to send a couple of letters to cheer him up.
Wow Hurley .... I knew this was coming, but forgot how imminent it was .... my heart goes out to all of you ..... we know what Marc is going through now in these first few days ..... I've forgotten, how old is he? ..... I so hope that you will honor us and allow us to walk this Coasties walk with you ...... when I read your post about how quiet and nervous he was, it so tugged at my heart. Could we write him and send cards too? I'd love to do that if you think he wouldn't mind. I will be sending him positive thoughts and prayers all day as he adjusts.
I have to scoot to an appointment, but will check back with you all later today. :)
Wow, I came home from being in appt. all day at the V.A. and got all this good news, and beautiful flowers! Iris why would you like the IRIS festival better? I just don't get it IRIS? I can't wait to see those pictures too. In the mean time I'm drooling about your double date. That would describe my idea of the perfect day. Especially with the See's candy! I grew up with it, but they don't have it on the east coast:( When my family comes, they always bring a box-it lasts for about a minute!
I was thinking about all of you earlier. We spent 4 hours, yes 4! in the eye clinic. I was thinking I need RSL right now. Then I came home to this! Very nice.
RSL to all of you!
Wow Iris ... I feel like I've been to Holland! .... your photographic skills are remarkable .... that closeup yellow and red tulip is a-m-a-z-i-n-g and all of your shots are just gorgeous. Thank you for sharing them with us. I love the happy first flowers of spring ... the crocus, daffodils, tulips .....
Mrs. B .... it is always good to come on and find good things happening for those we have come to care so much about. I trust that this first wave of good news will have ripple after ripple of more of the same. To feel so embraced by your community there with all the clothes and things for TJ, food, and $$ is such a heartwarming affirmation of loving service in action. Just think, one day you will be the ones paying it forward to someone who is in need.
Mary .... I'm glad that Dereck offered you a glimpse of those feelings of missing some things from home .... I bet you'd kind of like an evening of pizza, movies, and everyone piled on and around the couch ..... I miss those days. I'm hearing some signs of missing things from my son now .... as they go through some of the not so cool things that they encounter .... water conservation on the ship .... delayed mail and packages ..... canceled port visits .... long days of hard work ...........
Remember when he didn't think he'd want any care packages. I waited about three weeks before sending anything and those things took a month to arrive .... well, I received triple thank you's and appreciation and excitement over the homemade chocolate chip cookies ..... one month later and he said they were 'perfect'.
Proud navy mom ..... I hope your daughter makes it to her ship as quickly as she wants to and is supposed to .... and that the boredom she now feels dissipates as she starts the next phase of her new life on her ship.
Nicole ... keep shining girl!
Hi hurley and Lyn B and do and dyl's mom. I still think of all you guys almost every single day ...... hope you are all doing well ... and your sailors.
Lots of hugs all around ..............
Mrs. B- That is the best news you have had for a very long time. Sounds like things are turning around for you.
Iris- The flowers are absolutely gorgeous.
Nicole- Can't believe time has moved so fast that it is almost your turn to join. Good luck to you. You are a very strong person.
Well supposedly my daughter gets to join her ship on Saturday. We will see what really happens this time. For her sake, I hope it really transpires. She is tired of sitting around even though its only been 2 wks and San Diego where she has lots of friends. She just wants to start her life.
