I sent a Dear Recruit letter with my husbands first letter. I didn't even ask him. I just figured it was the right thing to do.

Yep, that's what you do! And some groups don't wait for their recruits answer, they just send "Dear Recruit" letters tucked inside the same envelope as the letter to their own kid and attach a post-it that says "give to someone who never gets mail". Some moms mail 3 letters each time.

I can give you tips on what to say: Tell them you have a loved one in bc and you'd like to be a pen pal because you want to support our Armed Services; congratulate them on joining the best Navy in the world; thank them for their service to this great country of ours; ask them simple questions about themselves (home town, interests, etc). Ask where they are going to A-school, what their rate (job) will be. Don't assume they are all men, we have lots of ladies in bc. Tell them a little about yourself. Tell them you know bc is tough - and that you can be a sounding board for them if they need that. Talk about teamwork, how important it is to work together. Acknowledge that the RDC's are a pain, but in the end they will understand why - and probably have great respect for them. DO NOT discuss/ask why no one is writing them. If they write you back and bring it up, then that's different. I tell them I will continue writing 1-2 times a week, regardless if they ever write me back - unless they tell me to stop, then I will honor that (has never happened yet). I type these letters - they are all alike (almost like a form letter!), but I had sign each one and include a smile face. I type my full name and return address in case they want to write back and I include 3 stamps stapled to the letter too. Date your letters too.

You will LOVE doing this - but your recruit may think your crazy, so explain it to them too!

Sobe...That is WONDERFUL news !! I bet you were so excited....do we all just ask our sons/daughters who is not getting mail ? I would love our group to all do that too.
Tell work that you just have to keep posting here and im sure they will understand lol....Hugs

How far do I have to go back to even catch up with all the posts here??? Whatever is going on, it sounds like fun!!! No time now though, I'm at work and just checked in to see if there were any burning questions. If you guys do have a question, it's best to send me a personal message (friend me first), that's the first place I go when I log on.

PS: I've been writing to several recruits who don't get mail from home, and one of them graduated today. My N4M friend who is there for her BF's graduation took a picture of my adopted sailor and sent it to me on my cell phone, with a message from him. THAT MADE MY DAY!!!! I now have a face to put with his name. I had my grandson take a pic of me on my phone and sent it to my N4M friend, so she could show it to my adopted sailor (Kyle). My poor N4M friend, she wants to visit with her BF, but she takes time out to put me and Kyle together via phone! LIFE IS GOOD - Thank you Lord!

Ha, Kim. Good luck with that... Tracy, what time does your mail come? You better get right back on here and tell us what your note says!

Okay, N4M friends.... I am scheduling an intervention for myself. My four year old failed his karate test yesterday and is now falling behind in Pre K. I need to get control or the Navy won't want him! Going to get some work done and will check back in with you all in a bit.

Please keep adding your info to the PIR 9-10-10 Members discussion above.
Happy Friday to all and go easy on those mail carriers, girls. They have feelings, too.
