For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Time vs Money: Most of us have little of both, but more of the first! Check out priceline.com, expedia, etc. for deals. Hotwire will send you emails when prices change to your destination of interest. DON'T bid on flights, because you can't pick your departure or arrival time - you could actually miss PIR, because most of those really cheaply negotatiated deal have you arriving the next morning!
MAUREEN - I hope you don't mind that I created an Event for this PIR's meet & greet on Thurs 9/9. But you are still the one in charge and you will be dealing with the Ramada Inn. There are several in this group who have already RSVP'd on the Event.

Just had to check in before I head to grocery. Two pages in just over an hour....wow! I am going to start thinking of getting tickets soon....NOT gonna miss the meet and greet here either...boyfriend is pumped to meet my crazy friends. The thing about my littlest kids is that they have one speed - fast - and one volume - loud. So things of great serious discipline are not quite their forte. But we're working on it.

And Deboarah, another thing... Southwest has great deals but they don't fly to Ohare. I'm setting up an alert to keep an eye on the other airport.

Sobe - thanks for the input. I was ckng (Los Angeles to Chicago O'Hare) today and $714 non refundable vs. $1,606 refundable. Seemed ridiculous. And that wasn't even first class. Even if it was first class I wouldn't want to pay it.
