My son is Ship 9 Div 302!
Comment by teaparty24-ship9div302 on July 22, 2010 at 1:57pm
My letter came! We are definitely PIR 9/10. He wrote "I'm all good! They kept us up for 2 days straight. We can only invite 4 people to graduation. Some of the guys may have extra tickets if they don't have anyone coming so I might be able to score a few extras. I will write ASAP. It is all good. I love y'all!"

Mountainmom.....So good to hear that you got your letter and box. Im sure that there will be a lot more in Div 304 as time goes on this week !! AS far as the ceremony goes....your recruit has to put down four names, which you probablly saw in your letter. This can be changed up to 1 1/2 weeks before. Ive been told that others can wait outside the ceremony building to see if there are any extra room for more guests but that is not guaranteed at all. Also, anyone 12 and under dont need to be on a list but it said in my form letter that they need some sort of form of ID like birth certificate.
Rlouie....glad you got your letter too !! I bet they are tired. Its quite the adjustment for them all. lol I hear you on the phone numbers....I dont know half my phone numbers either cause they are programmed. Now, I suppose it all depends on each division but they normally do not get phone call priviledges until 2-3 week but YES, keep that cell phone with you at all times lol.

Hi everyone, I just got my letter!! I'm so relieved. She said she's fine but tired, and get this she said " Mom can you send me your phone number in a letter I forgot to write it down!!!( it's programmed in her phone so she never dials it!!!) I've been walking around with my phone like a nut in case she earned a call !!! OMG!!! LOL

Hi Ladies, thanks so much for you kind words! I did get my box and letter on the same day, but it is probably because my box was delayed, we live in the mountains and Fed ex is kinda slow sometimes! postal mail comes quicker...Ha ha Kim..I actually have been so busy cramming for my final I havent had time to go on here, but since I got my letter I know the graduation date and have his address to write, I wanted to connect with you all and see if anyone was in the same division, Doesnt look like it, so far I am the only one with a kid in 304 but we all have the same PIR date. dont know about the meet and greet, my boyfriend and my ex Inlaws are going to Great Lakes with me , as well as my sons GF. does anyone know about extra people being able to get into the ceremony? I just told her to go and try and get in, if she cant get to the ceremony at least she will be able to see him afterwords...we are hoping to have enough money to get her a ticket, but I am thinking my recruit might just buy her ticket to make sure she is there. I wrote my first letter to him last night and cried the whole time! I still dont know where these emotions are coming from..I know he is ok, I am so proud of him. the first one was the hardest because I know he is hurting and going through it! I tried to send words of encouragement and scriptures to help him. I also printed out his facebook page so he could see what people have been saying and I printed out funny quotes for him from his favorite TV show, and I sent a picture of our dog .
thanks for your encouragement, all of you and good luck to the friend who has a presentation tonight! you will do great..God has provide you with everything you need to succeed, just have faith.

Morning Ladies...I wrote this same message on the ship 9, div 303 site but wanted to share it with you as well.......Jerry

Morning Ladies

Just wanted to let you know as a retired Sailor, its NOT uncommon for the SR's to say they hate it there, to be homesick, to say what did i do, and just feel down. When we received Davids note yesterday, I know Maureen felt really bad but I told her he wrote this note on day 4 and of course he would feel this way. They are being drilled hard, marching everywhere now, getting shots, standing in long lines, learning how to make a bed and taking 3 min showers. Its hard to adjust from civilian to military life, but they ALL will do it. Boot camp can be the hardest thing but also the best feeling at the end !! Youll see.
As for encouragement, yes they are given encouragement BUT, also , the guys in their division start forming bonds and work together as a team so that right there gives encouragement. Teamwork is KEY to boot camp. One messes up, they all mess up kinda thinking. ALso, when I was in boot camp and we went to chow, I would talk to other SR's that were ahead of me in weeks and they would tell us about fire fighting or swimming tests etc....they would tell us that it does get easier and so thats another way of encouragement.
When you write your letter, just give them all the encouragement and positive feedback you can. Understand their feelings but also reassure them that they chose a wonderful path and that they CAN do this !! Hope this helps a little. Have a wonderful day !

That is why I was so excited to get the box...means I will probably be the one to get the letter! Just can't wait to see who Adam put down for attending graduation.

I think so, Deborah. I have heard moms talking about dads or girlfriends getting the box or the form. That would be nice of you to copy the mother. I think I'll scan it and email it to my oldest son and ask him to forward it to his dad and grandparents.
Comment by Deborah (CTT son) on July 22, 2010 at 12:21pm
Thanks I'll do that. . . don't want to make any more "waves" than necessary.

I was wondering if there are two sets of parents (due to divorce) does that mean that only one parent got the form letter that included all the information and pamphlets? I was thinking about sending all info to Sarah's mom but didn't know if I needed to.
