Well my son is 22 going on 23 so he may be the oldest so far. He had a year of college and was asst. manager at a boating store. I am a former mortgage loan officer who has been a stay-at-home mom and pastor's wife for 11 1/2 years when we moved from our hometown. I love reading, am working on two books, and host/cater tea parties.

I'm on a web-based conference call, so I will jump in and out today!

I stayed at the Ramada, thought it was fine. Centrally located, easy to drive to RTC and the Mall. Free internet, free cont b-fast, very nice sheets and pillows (4 per bed), not fancy, but clean. They cater to Navy families. Free shuttle to PIR. But the bathrooms are small and little to no counter space in there. Mini frig and micro in room. Can give more info later if you need it

Kim, I am thinking the same thing. And actually I may be going solo because the only person we've left our two little ones with is actually Greg. My sister's 40th is that weekend so she's out and my other sister I'm just not sure if she is up for it. I don't think anyone is up for it.... So my husband may have to stay home and I'll go play with the sailors.

Anyone given any thought far enough into the future to have an idea of what hotel you are going to book a reservation at? I am thinking about the Ramada, sight unseen, as that is where the meet and greet is.

Speaking of writing, Greg gave his FB info to my niece so she can update his page with things like his address and how he's doing. When I gave her the address to post, I included a note that reminded the friends that not only can he not receive gifts, but asking them to remember to keep their mail "clean" and appropriate and white envelopes and no singing cards. I can just see a friend thinking something is funny that ends up getting Greg in trouble. Just something to think about...

Michellep: they are not allowed the time to write a note to put in the box, nor do they offer them any paper to write one.

Although I did read a recent post that said her son wrote a note to her while on the plane to GL and then he placed it in a pocket in his jeans. He knew his mom would check his pockets before she washed them. I thought that was awesome.

Nope. No note. Just stinky laundry and electronics.

The form letter that the Navy has your recruit send you states that they encourage writing to your recruit - and doing it often. That's one reason why there are a few of us writing to recruits in other PIR groups who have not received ANY mail from anyone - it is sooooo sad. My son would of never made it (mentally) without all the letters we sent. He is behind my "recruit writing project" 100%.

Jess - can you remind them of what they shouldn't send? I need to go to another meeting, won't be on again til this evening. Thanks!!!!!

Just got my box.... Any chance there's a note in there?
