Up reallllly early this morning - awake since 2:00 a.m. - this definitely takes me back to boot camp sleeping / not sleeping.  Tears flowing ..... wish it wasn't this hard to know he is leaving in three days ..... trying my best to 'be' better about it ..... thinking of Yoda's words .... was it 'don't try -do' or something like that.

Okay, so, the Southern Cross (or just Cruz) is of course outside my window this time of the morning.  I will post a photo here of it for those of you have not seen it.  This is not my photo, but one I grabbed from the internet for you to see.  Too early to take pictures, transfer to computer, upload ... yadda yadda yadda.  It tilts a bit to the right and is a 4 point cross.  I guess Lyn B can see this probably too ..... as you can see it in all of the southern hemisphere.

Gonna go outside now for a bit to look at it ..... gotta be careful out there in the night ..... snakes, scorpions, big toads, bats, huge spider webs that grow overnight, insects, bugs ...... but all worth it for a glimpse of this beauty ....... see it isn't all glamorous down here.  Back in a bit.

Comment by AJ on February 18, 2011 at 8:41pm

Beautiful hibiscus ...... however, the ants can come (and do) in the night, and will eat the entire thing before morning.  They will last a long time if the ants don't get them.

One thing that you might find interesting, if not strange ..... it took me a while to get used to the idea ...... when you buy milk here, you buy it in small boxes and none of it is refrigerated.  You buy it on the shelf and it has a shelf life of months .... no preservatives.  I'm not sure what their process is .... and yes the milk stays unspoiled ..... cream the same way.

I wish you guys were all sitting here with me having a glass of something.  The hugest, brightest, most gorgeous full moon is rising over the Central Valley .... yes, I'm going to go take pictures.  Gotta enjoy these moments when they are there ..... so I'll post my comments for you guys about your news and stuff as soon as I can get back on.  Love and hugs ..... AJ

I am having computer problems getting anything more to upload .... had a picture of the full moon rising over the Central Valley last night .... will try to post it tomorrow.

You guys ..... A leaves on Tuesday!  I can't believe it.  I can't believe I am not there.  I can't believe he didn't care if I was there.  I can't believe I won't see him for so many long months.  I can't believe this is all really happening .... like somehow I expect to wake up from a bad dream and that he is really in his second year of college and he'll be home next weekend ..... and isn't that awful of me .... to not be wholeheartedly, perfectly accepting that which he most wants to do.  I gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta get a grip .... and as Mary says .... pull up the big girl pants.

So I found out the day before yesterday that he is on what they call the 'Flying Squad'.  I had no idea what this was and had to do my homework after hanging up.  It is part of the Emergency Response Team on the ship ... and they have to wear these red hats that show they are part of that group all the time when they are on the ship.  He said there is a perk in that he doesn't have to stand on the perimeter of the ship for the long couple of hours as they ship pulls out ....... (although I thought he might want to - he does not - too much standing) ..... and he gets to go in front of the meal line, ahead of several ranks above him to get food, because he needs to take less time to eat to be on the constant ready status.  Is this a good thing you ask?  Or maybe you didn't.  I don't know.  I did find out in my research that being on the Flying Squad is one of the 10 toughest jobs on a ship.  Oh my.

This departure is the biggest send-off that San Diego has done in its history, according to news reports.  This is not confidential, as it was posted in a newspaper, but 4,000 Sailors and Marines will be leaving on three ships as part of this Readiness Group.  Are these details that you want to know?  Too much information, right?  But for your future planning, apparently they put up web cams that one can log onto the day of deployment and watch the ships leave the Bay.  I'll be glued to my computer with tissue box in hand .... God, please give me strength to endure this new life.

I'm going to post this in case I still have problems getting it to go through before I type anything more.  I've probably used up all the space they allow one person in one day!  I promise not to create 15 pages for you to have to read.

These bright things are called 'jocotes' (ho-coat-tace) and they taste kind of like a strange squash ... they eat them here with a little dab of 'natilla' or sour cream (which is nothing like our real sour cream).  The white things are 'guanabana' ..... they they are a wonderfully weird fruit .... kind of slimy and marshmallowy texture, very juicy ..... and very delicious.

Fine looking tomatoes, eh?

And this egg man has upped his game .... he displays most of his eggs in these real egg containers .... often I buy them laying on top of each other in the plastic bags shown here ..... try getting those home without the pineapples busting the shell .... pineapples to follow ......

I have not gotten gutsy enough to buy meat here yet .... it is quite warm and these containers are not refrigerated .... although they do try to pack ice around ..... what do ya think?

And I was wrong further down about you needing to scroll across to see all the picture .... that was just me when I loaded them here .... they come across fine in the posting.  Tired yet, I have more ......... maybe you'll feel like you went to the market .......

Comment by AJ on February 18, 2011 at 7:03pm

Hola Chicas!  You guys are going to kill me .... but I'm having a hard time deciding what pictures you might want to see from the 'feria' this morning.  I've whittled it down to 12 or 14 .... and I'll post until I feel 'muy estupido' ......

Want some watermelon?

or mangoes?

Chiles? Peppers?

It looks like you may need to use the slide bar on these to see the whole picture ..... be sure to do that as sometimes the best part of the shot is to the right .... like on this last one ........ maybe these pictures will provide some promise of warmer weather headed your respective ways ..... Going to post these to see how they look before I post more ...........

Have a wonderful night Iris!:)

Well, yesterdays party was a complete success!

She was absolutely surprise, she was on the assumption it would be me her and my aunt just going to get pizza at the restaraunt i was practicaly raised in..well, we walked in and went to the back room we had rented and at least 25-30 people had showed up she walked in and they yelled surprise, i swear she was going to start tearing up! She was soooooo shocked, she was like WOW!
She hasn't had a birthday party since she was little so we decided to throw a big one! We had tons of people she likes chatting with, a giant cake, lots of chicken and pizza, tons of balloons presents & fun!

It was awesome! & my "almost boyfriend" (thats what we're calling it, because we keep getting asked) was there, and met my aunt, and everyone else, they al love him! he ended up coming over aftrer the party and watching jersey shore with me!! very fun night!

Good Morning Ladies! It's Friday, date night with Mr. Wonderful, and it's his birthday. Not sure what we plan on doing. Could be wild and crazy....lol....NOT! That takes too much energy anymore and well, us mature adults have to conserve it for what's really important. Desert!!!!!!  Lol.....

Hurley - HELLOOOOO...... Glad to see you back. Sorry you've been under the knife so much. Hang in there sunshine. I want to encourage you to get your tests done. Had I not been so bull headed, It might not of cost us over $150,000 in medical bills. Fortunately, with a little encouragement, our insurance has ponied up for most of it. But that's two zero's less if you just get tested regularly and they can find stuff early. Please - all of you ladies - just do it! Okay, there is my rant. Now to a more pleasant topic, Men. Lol... yes, I believe you have hit the nail on the head. They can be really wonderful, but as we have the bitch button, they carry the a-hole button. Our brains are definitely wired differently. Don't be such a stranger if you can, we love hearing from you and miss you when you are a way. Keep smiling, even if it just looks creepy. =) Big HUGS!!!

Nicole - you are such a sweet heart. What a lucky grandma. Hope you all have a blast! Post pics when you can. We really enjoy seeing them. How exciting you will be a licensed driver. Be safe and as always, have fun.

Mary - Massage Therapy, mmmmm.... that sounds nice. If you need volunteer's to practice on for the Bamboo one, I'm sure you'll find no shortage here. Hopefully this session will be less emotional than the last one for you. But hey, if you need a good cry, do it. I don't see anything wrong with letting the emotions out.  Sorry to hear your man is being a poo...  Hang in there, rant to us if you need to and remember we are here for you.

DO- hope you are feeling better.

AJ - Excuse me one moment while I go kill the stupid defective roomba. The stupid thing is already broke, but it keeps on it's schedule and makes this horrible thumping noise that drives me crazy, cause I know it's not picking up anything and then it will say "Error - open roomba's brushes and clean brushes". That isn't the freakin' problem. The stupid brushes won't stay connected properly. Grrrrrr.... stupid thing. Okay that was apparently really bugging me. Better get the hubby on fixing it before I do some real damage to it out of frustration. Ahhhh.... okay, sorry for that. Now to what you've been up to. Oh sigh, a farmers market. Drool... it will still be about 3 more months before ours will be open. That's it, I'm going to do it. In the next two years, I'm going to move my cold butt to a sunnier climate. This place is just not for me. Now to find the right place. Any suggestions? It has to have good gun laws. My husband is a shooter (competition pistol shooting) and won't leave his babies behind. =) Anyhoo.... back to you. Sorry I'm just all over the place today. Oh yeah, speaking of which. Girl get your butt in to the doctors and get your photo shoot. (See how I used butt in the sentence...lol....cleaver, huh?). It's really no big deal. They give you meds to make you forget the whole thing, so presto, no embarrassment necessary.Anyhow, can't wait to see your pics and be totally jealous. =) Hugs to you and hope all is going well.

Well, I need to get to my exercising. Yep, 20 minute Turbo Jam. I really like the combination of dance and boxing. It gets the blood a pumping.

Everyone have a fantastic weekend and be prepared to come back on Monday with lots of news. =) Sunny days and warm cozy nights to you all.

Dear and precious Hurley ..... we would never forget you, no not ever .... so good to hear from you again ..... please do take extra good care of yourself right now ..... and please do follow up on those appointments ....... having been through two years of doctors appointments after the car accident (after being healthy my entire life), I understand ..... as does our precious Iris, how frustrating those seemingly non-stop appointments can be ..... however, we need to look out after each other in all ways we can .... and so, follow up and keep at it .......

I have a lot I want to post and have to run to the feria (outdoor farmer's market type thing) ..... so I promise, promise, to come back on later and post lots .... and some pictures.

And Mary ..... I have not done that first colonoscopy either and ..... have some thoughts I want to share with you about the fear and death wishes and all that you wrote about ............

I really do have to scoot ... and so want to stay here right now and write to you guys ........ ok .... I must go ...........................

Hi everyone, so happy you all didn't forget me. Sorry, I've so many tests and just feel into such a funk. Anyway, nothing for you all to worry about, I am really fine.

Oh Iris, you have been through a lot, I always smile how strong you are and always make me smile. I had a hysterectomy when I was just 30 . I don't think there's an organ in my bosh that one doesnt need that hasn't been removed! Ha, guess less is best in my case. I just had mycolonoscopy and endoscopy a couple of weeks ago. I guess mine is opposite of yours. All check out ok with a few problems but I'm fine. I need to see my doctor but won't make the appointment. Just tired of it all, silly huh. Also have to have my mako done and I keep staring at the script and just put it off too. I have been having those all the Tim since was in my 30s and had issues but I attired of it all. But you give me such inspiration so I will make my appointments tomorrow. I am happy for Haley. I bet she can't wait for Travis to arrive. So sweet. Her pictures are beautiful.
