Hi Dyl's Mom - thanks for asking but I'm happy to say that we are on the other coast of Australia and not having the horrible rain that they are experiencing over east thank goodness.  It's summer and lovely - we went to a free outdoor opera last night downtown and it even got chilly.  When we were moving here everyone was all "omg - the heat will kill you" but coming from Houston the heat has been a breeze!  What gets us is the chill...there's almost always a breeze and you need a jacket in the evenings.  Kind of like living in northern CA I think.

Yep Mary - A was assigned to the Constitution in boot camp - was the only guy selected in the 9/10 PIR group after interviews.  A month later they decided a paperwork issue relating to his time in service was an issue and withdrew the assignment.  Thats how he ended up in Seabees.  His degree is in history and he's done Civil War historical re-enactments for documentaries and stuff so it was perfect for him.  His Sr Chief has said he'll recommend him for an assignment on her again. *fingers crossed*.  However he told me this week that NRD Nashville is causing yet more issues - they've 'lost' his records from 2007 - 2009 which may impact his ability to advance.  The list of issues that NRD has caused fills a full 2 page letter.  So so frustrating.

However, excitement in Coronado.  Apparently the guys on watch (fortunately not A's watch) failed to stop a person who got into camp, drove one Humvee into the ocean, and outright stole a 2nd one.  And missed an alarm on a ship that was going off for 4 hours.  He says they are all going to be in a world of pain as a result :-(  Serious lesson in team responsibility I'm afraid!  The guys who were on watch may lose their Navy careers.

A has done some research and says if he can't advance in the USN he may move to Australia and join the Navy here - serve 4 years and get citizenship!

I'm wondering about Iris too!  Hope she's having far too much fun. :-)  And hope everyone is staying warm.

Happy Saturday all.  So Mary, I'm afraid I have no good suggestions for a Valentine's Day box ...... although I would love to see Dereck's face if you really sent silky heart boxers! ............ I've asked Aaron about things he would like to find in just a care box ...... and he has not gotten homesick enough yet to even want a care box, let alone a Valentine box.  So for the first year ever, no Valentine for my boy.  They deploy in about two weeks .... so I figure about two months or so into that deployment, I'll try sending a box from home with some of his fav's .... maybe by then he'll appreciate it!

And Mary the USS Constitution is a really old Navy ship that is harbored in Boston.  It is the world's oldest commissioned warship afloat.  Lyn B's son had been the leader in interviews for getting assigned to that ship and some glitch in the system kept that from happening.  So neither of our sons are on that ship, although I think her son would still like to .... which is why I sent her the link to the lottery for a cruise.  I signed up just because I thought it would be fun to see and experience.  You can google it and get more info on the history of the ship.

I wonder what Iris and Haley are up to today?  I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm eager for a new report!

Gotta go run some errands so will check in later.  :)

hey all!   great pic sondra!  navy boy looks great and momma looks sooo happy!    hope everyone is doing ok.  oh...and yes, "yogi" has 4 white paws.  forgot to tell you that about 4 pages ago!  ha!  we're dealing with the after effects of the blizzard that went through here monday/tuesday.  what a mess.  missed a day and a half of work... that doesn't make me too sad though!  ha!   the neighborhood roads are still treacherous and the kids are going to be out of school again tomorrow.  i'm sure they are all so bummed!  dyl's got the brunt of it there in chicago with 24 inches.  he is soooo over winter!   cracks me up!  i'm used to snow since i grew up in colorado but the first real blizzard he was in was a year ago at xmas.  he says he's sick of the white stuff!  he said they had to wait an hour outside to eat at the galley because they were down to 2 lines and lots to feed.

Iris, sounds like you're in heaven with your baby home!  so glad you're enjoying the time together.

gonna run for now..... gotta let the pup inside.  guess he's done playing in the snow!  i'll talk to ya'll soon!

Mary, i think the NROTC scholarships are tough to come by.  dyl's had applied and was interviewed.  they told him he was a strong candidate but he didn't get it.  he was a little disappointed but was ok with heading to boot camp.

Lyn, are the rains affecting you where you are in austrailia?   whenever i hear the news, i think about you and wonder if you're doing ok.

Thanks Iris for the warm and fuzzy senses and feelings this morning ..... flannel sheets, snugly jammies, daughter home, all is well with the universe ...... oh, and the sun is shining .... bonus!  Have a wonderful mom / daughter / family day .... we know you will!

All that warm and fuzzy is very much welcome with the -35 below zero wind chill outside .... and lower tonight.  I actually made a bowl of hot, warm, Cream of Wheat this morning ..... I loved that stuff as a kid ........... and it tasted so good.

So I finally got approved on the ship's Family Support Group (which is different than the Ombudsman Group) ..... so, as soon as you know the ship's website for your sailor, sign up for their Family Support Group (it can take up to a week to get approved and you have to give you birthdate, etc.) .... but now that I'm on it, I got to view about 85 pictures from the Family Cruise Day last week.  What fun that looked like .... lots of family pictures, BBQ'd chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, soooo many smiles ......... planes, helicopters, lots of amphibious stuff .... a-mazing.  Be sure to sign up for all this stuff when it's your time (Family Support Group / Ombudsman Team).

Spring is only 50 days away!  :)

Morning ladies - Haley is in the loo so now I have a minute to chat. She looks so good and I'm really happy. Duh! You are all so funny.

Sondra - so glad you had a great time with your boys. Nice pic. Sorry you hate flying. Maybe get a happy pill for next time. Cause you know there is going to be a next time.

AJ - too bad the orangutan was a joke. You would make an excellent substitute mom for it and it would give you something to shower all your love on. You are more than welcome for breakfast but just to warn you, I need to go grocery shopping. That's what H & I are doing today. Along with picking up some toiletries for her. So freaking cool to have her home. She said she slept so well last night. And yes, after we got to bed past 12:30 pm our time (2:30 am hers) we all slept well. She had her new flannel sheets on the bed, and her new snugly jammies on. All is well with the universe today. Lol....

Well I need to keep this short but wanted to share my spazz moment with you guys. Hope everyone is having a great week.

Oh and to top it off. It's sunny today. Yay!!!!!

Hugs Ladies!
