OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Mamagrunge: I wish we could drive, but we can't leave until Thursday afternoon. I checked some of the flights from here and they were not too bad.

When did your daughter ship to GL? My son left on the 30th so I'm thinking he's class 503 and will graduate 9/26?
Only 4 days so far, waiting on the box to come home
All the best to you and your daughter

Meant to say:  On all but Navy Lodge below, call direct and ask for the Navy Graduation discount.   Navy Lodge does not have a lower rate...their rates are pretty reasonable.

NovaMom:  You can make hotel reservations directly with the hotels with no penalty if you have to change or cancel.  Some suggestions are Navy Lodge (book in your SR's name if you do not have military ID)...Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express.  Navy Lodge is the closest to RTC, about a mile away.  The others are about 4-5 miles away, close to the MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for you.

If you have to book flights, try booking on Southwest Airlines into either Milwaukee WI (45 min to GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL depending on traffic).  There is no change fee if you have to switch flights, 2 bags check for free.

Stephanie, see my info above re: hotels.
