N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Oh my! I WISH I got a letter:( Im feeling very envious right now... When you say they seem like their doing well, did he elaborate?? Do you think they can earn their phone calls by this weekend? I hope they figure it out quick so they can write and call their families!!!!!!!

Jen- they sound like they are doing well... just working out the kinks of being a team!

Everybody--- I did get my son in a bit of trouble. I sent several cards a day for the last few weeks... he received all of his mail at once and couldn't fit it all in the drawer because of the thickness of the cards. I'm sure Lemonelephant advised us of this... but somehow... I didn't realize that this would be the issue with "small" cards (like the size of thank you notes). He ended up having to throw some out and I think he had to do PT. So.... only paper from now on for me!

Thanks Proudmama.  If we all but our tidbits of info together we might get an idea of whats going on. Hopefully they can start working together, and we can get some phone calls.

OK- DIvision 820! Heads up!!! I received a letter! All is well.... but the guys have had letter writing and phone calls taken away due to problems working with a team. No one person sounds like he is responsible for any issue. It was a really positive letter! Is there a mom on here with a son whose initials are AB who has an AIRR rate? If so, please pm me. It is good.... just wanted to relay some nice news:) I'm leaving to go back to work in a little bit... but I just had to stop in and tell everyone! Bravo Zulu to div 820 and to their parents!!!

Diannep- from now on, should I only post this on the 820 thread?? not sure that everyone in 820 would get this message if I did that....

For those families who are flying. I searched through Kayak.com and found airfares from PHL non stop. American was the best flight times and prices. I called Amer Airlines directly and was told you can "upgrade" to a Refundable ticket for $50 r/t per ticket for any flight. Nonrefundable tickets realize a $200 r/t change fee per ticket. Of course, as suggest, check Southwest.com. This airline is not included on the Kayak.com search site, which pulls from many major carriers. Southwest already has a nonrefundable, free baggage, built into its pricing - but for us American Airlines worked better. There are no nonstop flights from PHL through Southwest and it was a little pricier. American also has an upgrade plan of $68 r/t per ticket, which includes free bag and beverage. Please recheck these details - I may bee slightly off on something.

sailorsgirl,

There are some really cool Challenge Coins!  Besides the RTC ship coin, I really like the Core Values one of Honor, Courage & Commitment--it had cut outs and a diamond cut beveled edge!

On the ratings (job) ones, you don't give that to your SR until he has completed A school and actually become an IT, MA, or whatever he is working hard for.  These also have a space on it to engrave their title, name, and date of graduation.  I put "SA  First Name  Last Name", then 8-7-13 on the second line.    It should have been "ITSA First Name  Last Name".  Oh well, it was pretty close!  You can get it engraved at a local trophy shop.
