OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

@boocoo, I hear you. My dog barks at the mailman and I'm sitting here waiting for him to bark! @marcelle - I mailed 7 letters so far and have two more "on deck." My son told me not to write hime every day, as I did with my older son who served in the Air Force, but I beleve he needs these letters. Okay, I didn't EVERY day - I skipped a couple!

@Weebee - hopefully tomorrow!

WeeBee's Mom,

Just to let you know, one of the long envelopes will take 5 pages of the copy paper that I get from WalMart and it will be less than 1 oz.  I would try to put as much as I can up to 1 oz for each envelope.  Lined notebook paper weighs less so you can put more pages if you use those.  Photographs weigh more so you should copy those onto a blank paper to get more pictures included.  Newspaper clippings should be photocopied too.  I think the newsprint getting onto the SR's hands causes them to be "out of regulation."  Not in compliance with cleanliness.

Praying for you TritonMom, I am so relieved. Just mailed out 5 more!!!

It will be there, I know it!!

No letter today :( The firefighter that checked it for me sounded as disappointed as I did. I did however, break down and call the recruiter to see if they had info and they gave me Ship 12/Division 388. Do you think it would be okay for me to mail the letters?
