N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Navymom417, I understand, I have been wondering what we might do too.  I will keep my eyes out for what people suggest to you.

Can anyone confirm that since October 14 is Columbus Day, our SR will get liberty that day also? It is a federal holiday. My son is staying in GL for A-school and that is his birthday. We would need to include that in our travel plans.

@ Cathy mazz thank you so much about asking about the group.. Guess my daughter is being mean.Girls will be girls and does take longer for them to bond. I'm sure they will figure things out soon.

BoosMom:  That's right.  We always tell you all to leave it up to your sailors as far as what to do on Liberty.  One mom said all her son wanted to do was come back to the hotel, shower, and then sleep all afternoon.  He was exhausted and leaving out in the wee hours the next morning for his A School.  In our case, my sailor had no preference other than a LONG shower by himself  :-) .  So we just went to lunch, and then drove around the local area.  Believe it or not, he really enjoyed that...seeing the area he had been in for almost 11 weeks (his bootcamp was longer because of Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years/Martin Luther King holidays and he was asmoed(setback) for a week)....but he loved seeing the area he had been in.  There was snow everywhere which was nice....we don't get much snow in S. FL!  :-)

So what about letters that they write to families? Does that take as long as the form letter. I live in New York about 12 hours from there.. Also my husband left the 8/15, do they get to write on the first Sunday?

surfcityusa, my son arrived at boot Camp on 8/13 and still no form letter....They said it could take 10 days even though many families got their letter whose SR left 8/13.....
