Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

MomOfFutureAM, It is an unlimited weekend pass for the $7 per person, and it is the best thing to get even if you don't think you will be going back into the city. We bought the weekend pass to be safe even though we weren't planning on going back, and ended up saving $25 when we went a second time. :)
Yes, the Metra is handicap accessible for a mobility scooter. The parking lot is on the other side of the train station and the ramp to get to the station with a scooter is on the left side corner.

tkherb0809 have a question on the train. is that $7 per person for the entire weekend (both ways). is this the train station right outside the base? do you think they could handle a mobility scooter?

sunshine27215, Your SR will have "extra" help while trying to pass the swimming test. The RDC so want everyone to pass, and will do what they can to get it done. Keep that in mind and keeping sending those "good vibes" to help him along.

sunshine: Yep, we all went through/are going through the "can't fix it" thing! Part of them growing up. Unlike school, where we could call a teacher to talk about our child's problem, we cannot call the Navy to do this. The contract is between the SR and the Navy--and the Navy certainly doesn't want our involvement. YIKES! Where does "mom" fit in? My son was older when he went in...23....and had lived away before. But I still felt the same way...knew I couldn't fix anything...it was up to him. It is a hard lesson for us moms who are natural "fixers" but it is amazing how our SRs/sailors step up to the plate! You will see at PIR!
Go on the no news is good news. He still has time to get the swim test passed. Just keep sending your encouragement! :-)
