OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Kaylas#1supporter-  What were some of the questions you asked and what ones were so funny?  I am going to do this in my next letter but want it to be fun too and not just answer boring questions!

I want trying to start a political debate.. I was just looking for guidance on the right wording to keep his mind in the game, so to speak. I don't want in to worry. And I figured you guy would know the perfect wording.. But it won't happen again.

mommakay- he is now on ship 13 div 385. I pray this will be a better fit for him. I also made him promise not to get any further injuries that might slow him down. :)

My hasband writes almost everyday and sends them on sunday. It's crazy to read exactally how much he is changing. The first letter was about how he hadn't got my letters and was home sick and his arms hurt pretty bad. To the last that said he got my letters and they help him worry less and keep him sane. How he's made a ton of friends.. And how his arms hurt a lot less. He even wrote a letter to our daughter. Talk about waterworks. (: one think he asked was about Syria.. He asked a lot of questions. Says everyone there is talking about it and the war that they think is going to derive from it.. How do I respond and keep upbeat.. I don't know a whole lot about it but I know the basics...help.....
