For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Do you think that the 820 div is likely to have phone priv. since they did not make phone calls last weekend or do you think we will all be waiting until after the holiday weekend?

Comment by diannep on August 31, 2013 at 10:10am: PIR 10/18 group (some divisions) were told they could mail out letters next week, so I feel sure that most divisions here will finally be allowed to mail out letters on Tues (because Labor Day is Monday so no mail)! Fingers crossed!

For those in 12/387, I would think your calls will come this weekend. He said he has written letters but has not been able to send them. Hopefully everyone in this div will mail them this weekend.

Comment by diannep on August 31, 2013 at 9:45am: munchkinmom: You can contact her recruiter to see if he/she has an address/ship/division info for you....they get this from the computer....but just remember that sometimes that info changes and the form letter may reflect different info (form letter will be correct info). It is best to wait for the form letter.

Comment by diannep on August 31, 2013 at 9:44am: munchkinmom: No worries...the form letter can sometimes actually take 2-3 weeks to arrive. Could she have sent it to anyone else? They usually can only send one out...unless there is a divorce situation and they request a 2nd one for the other parent (I have been told). I bet you receive it in the next week! No way you can check on it...the Public Affairs Office won't give you any info on that. They will just tell you to wait.

Comment by munchkinmom on August 31, 2013 at 2:47am: Help!!!! It's been sixteen days since my daughter has been in bootcamp. The box was recieved but from what I have been told no form letter has been recieved. I had read that it would be 7-10 days. If there was a medical issue we would have been called by now. Are there any steps that I can take to check into why we haven't recieved her from letter?
