N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

On the better late than never letter: Finally got to lay eyes on my form letter instead of just having the report of it from my husband when I got home a few minutes ago. Who would have thought that in just 2 weeks, the Navy has improved his penmanship when 19 years with me didn't do it :) I understand all the "it's so neat" comments now.

To heymomlpn, I saw your post earlier today. My heart goes out to you and your SR. We hurt most for our children, sometimes more than they do for themselves. I know that we have raised strong young men and your young man sounds like one of the strongest. Please let him know that there are people very grateful to him for what he has gone through in the name of serving our Country. Don't ever let him forget that he is a hero.

About finally getting to see my kid again!: My husband and I will be flying in Wednesday night, his brother will probably fly in Thursday at some point. Unfortunately, his sister just started a new job and won't be able to come up but hopefully she will be able to watch it stream live before work. Thought about the Gateway as we are military but the oldest boy is no longer a dependent and we heard really good things about the Navy Lodge so that's where we're going. My understanding is that WeeBee will be headed out to A School Saturday morning but we are going to stay on through Tuesday since I have never been to Chicago.

Is everyone in the 820 div. EOD's?

Comment by jen on August 28, 2013 at 10:23pm

heymomlpn, sorry to hear about your SR. I hope the medical issue is easily resolved. At least he can say he gave it a try and hopefully reenlist in the future. I'm sure he knows how proud of him you are.

heymomlpn, sorry to hear your SR is on his way home, but like others said, he has a plan and sounds like a very strong young man. My sister's son was medically discharged from Marine Boot Camp several years ago and he figured it was meant to be and went to college instead. Now he has a great job and is getting ready to get married.

Proudmama, two stamps is ok from what I have seen others post on here. Just can't be to big or bulky.

Weebee, so happy you got your letter. I know what a relief that is.

To private message on here:

Click on the person's screen name or picture in their post here.  That will take you to their "My Page."  On the left side of their page, you will see Add a Friend.  Click on that.  You will get a pop up that allows you to add a personal message, or you can just send the friend request with no message.  Once the person accepts it (you will know a person is friend requesting you by looking on your "My Page" top right....it will show you have a request...just click on it and hit "accept.")....once the person accepts your request, their picture will appear on your own My Page (tab at top of the page) in your Friends section.  They may message you back too (same section as the Friend Request notifications will show that you have a message).

It sounds more complicated than it is!  Just takes some practice!  :-)

heymomlpn:  So very sorry....hoping that whatever is wrong medically can be resolved...and he can re enlist down the road if he wants to!

marcelle... thanks for your post today. I decided not to just put my somewhat "chubby" letter into the mail. Instead, I walked it right up to the mailman and asked if it weighed too much. He said "no"...but then told me it was "too fat" and that I needed to pay 20 cents more! I can't have two stamps... so I took my envelope and  left to get a legal size envelope rather than trying to fit a regular piece of paper into a small envelope. If you hadn't posted about the concern that the mailman had with your letter... I would have just popped that into the mail... and it would have arrived... at GL with Postage due! That would have gone over really well... don't you think?? So... thanks !!! We are becoming quite a team -and we haven't even met!!

heymomlpn- I would like to add to the comments of others... that I am sorry that things did not turn out as you would have liked... but I am so glad that he is already making plans for his immediate future which is very healthy for him and shows resilience! I wish peace for you and open doors for your son as he moves forward with a new chapter in his life! Maybe he will want to come back in a couple of years:)

heymomlpn- So sorry to hear about your SR but glad that he is still in good spirits and already has plans to try again when he is permitted.

Marcelle- I am planning to be at GL from Thursday thru Monday. My son has A school there so If all the information I have read is correct.....I will be able to see him all weekend. I didnt want to loose out on even one minute of that opportunity.
