Congrats to all of you who now have Sailors!!! Can't wait until we FINALLY get the call too!! I did have a question that is just out of curiosity...why did the 800 & 900 divisions go before ours - I assumed that they would go in sequential order...not that it matters. Can't wait to meet everyone tomorrow night at Sarge's!! Thanks to all the vet moms for helping us through this time in our lives, you're awesome and very much appreciated!!
Lala and diannep, You have been life savers all these weeks! Not just with all the great information, but in the sincere care that you have shown for all of our children and for us as well! Thank you so much for your dedication. I can't imagine better representatives for the US Navy family. I am so proud to now say that I belong as well!
Congrats to all the new Sailors and of course to all of you who support them in every way. Have a wonderful time at PIR and please travel safely.
If you are planning to drive to the base: don't line up in the far right lane the morning of PIR. That lane ends, so stay to the left of it and it will save you lots of wait time. You can also choose to stay in the far left lane and make a left turn in front of the gate at the base. Then drive down that street and make a U-turn. The wait time on that road is usually even less. If time allows check your route the day before PIR so you know exactly where you are going and how to get there.
When you get into the PIR Hall take some practice shots with your digital camera. Change your settings until you get the best pictures possible with the lighting and environment you are in. You can even try turning off your flash to see if that would produce the best pictures. Your pictures will come out much better and you will be glad you took the time to do it.
If you go to Gurnee Mills Mall keep track of the amount of time you have. That mall is huge and there are no pass through stores or hall ways to work as short cuts. It is Z shaped so if you start at one end you have to go back to where you started the same way you came. And, you don’t want to get your Sailor back to the base late.
If your Sailor tells you the day of PIR that they will be on a chartered flight you won’t get to meet them at the airport. They go straight from the base to the Jet and don’t come inside. This doesn’t happen very often but it did happen to us and we didn’t really say goodbye on Friday night because we thought we would have several hours with her at the airport. Had we known we wouldn’t see her at the airport our goodbye wood have been different and we wouldn’t have been at the airport searching for her. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone but I think it is important for you to know so that you are prepared.
Thanks for letting me get to know all of you, I know you will have a wonderful time with your Sailors :-)
do we know when everything start friday morning
