He's laughing....
LOL Honorary Mom 09/327 that is too sweet! The "digital uniforms" or "digis" are similar to what used to be called BDU's. I think they are now called "Navy Work Uniforms" or "Military Work Uniforms." The ones for the Navy are really nice - or sick lol - they are blue of course. I think this is the first year the Navy has had them...is that right veteran moms?
Two letters today in one envelope! Quote ~ "We got our digital uniforms today and they are sick! I love them." What in the world is that?
Awww...pooh..."military" not ,ilitary! I'm on my mini laptop and the keys are different! haha...on the go...was watching my son train a horse...
Here is some additional info on the Navy Lodge:
I stay military when I can...hubby has been AF Reserves for 27 years, son is the Sailor...so I have dependant ID. You don't need it for this Navy Lodge. You tell them it is for PIR and they may ask for your Recruits Name and Rate (Navy enlisted have "rate" not rank...it coincides with their pay grade E-1 to E-9 for enlisted. E-3 is the highest rate they can "rank up" too in BC). They may also ask you to bring them by to verify...but I always forget if that is enforced.
It is clean, I did not get a kitchenette as those are first come first serve. We had to queens and a rollaway.TV with DVD player, microwave, small fridge etc. Had nice furniture and a lobby with a fireplace. Hot coffee 24/7. Vending machines (variety...even one with alcohol! You have to get tokens at the desk for this.) Coin laundry, You can buy Computer time (these look exactly like the ones I saw in Recruit phone Computer room at the NEX) and pay for printer usage. Computers are in front of the elevators on each floor. WiFi has a charge. They do not have a Shuttle Service...but you can ask to arrange for a taxi...again here is where Sarge can come in handy!(SARGE AT 847-212-0246)
Lobby has DVD's for rent, post cards and a Curio with some Navy items for sale. They will give you a temporary pass to use at the small NEX down the road...there is also a gas station (don't need a pass for that).
It runs about $65.00 a night...no tax.
Here is a pic of the pass (courtesy of Craig):
They do a brown bag breakfast daily...was great for PIR. Bagel, cream cheese, chewy granola bar and large OJ...all in this bag:
Was great for PIR! I don't have pictures of the outside...only our messy hotel room!
The NL is about 1.5 miles from RTC. It is not on base but it is in some of the base housing area.
Here is a Mapquest from the Navy Lodge to Ohio Street, Gate 8 of RTC:
No, you do not have to be ,ilitary nor have military ID.
You may register "through" your SR. Just tell them you are attending PIR and they will ask for his name rate/pay grade.
Do you need a military ID to book at the Navy lodge?
Can you make a reservation at the Navy Lodge and not have been a member of the military ? I read a post on FB that you had to be... I've not read it mentioned here on N4M's...
Hi everyone, I am Lora, aka Lala the PIR Ribbon Queen and I'm from NC. I have a daughter, 22, who is Sailor in VA. She had PIR in July, 2010 so I have been on this site for more than 2 years. Her husband is also a Sailor in VA and his PIR was Oct 2010. We give him a really hard time because she outranks him lol. We have experienced lots of different things through this journey and I am here to help you. If you have any questions at all please ask them here on this page and one of us will do our best to answer it for you.I often get messages from people who either have not been accepted to this website yet so they can't post comments or they are just to shy at this point to say anything yet. So, you can send me a private message if you like and I will do my best to help you.My email address is listed on my page so just click on my name or picture and it will take you to my page. My Sailor was in the performing division 936 and was in the choir. For now the best advice is to write letters every day if you can. Even if your SR said not to, do it anyway. They quickly change their mind and love hearing their name called for mail call. It is like Christmas to them and they say the letters are what gets them through the next day. Try not to worry if the first couple of letters seem down or sad. This is normal and it does get better. You will be able to tell a difference in them with each letter you receive. I know this is hard but be strong, you can do this. And on the days when you feel like you can't do this just come to this page and we will help you through it :-) I know you are looking forward to those first letters and calls :-) And I look forward to getting to know all of you and hearing more about your soon to be Sailors :-)
I sure can tell this is going to be an active group with 14 divisions. You guys already have as many pages of comments as the group two weeks ahead of you. I hope you all are having a great time getting to know each other :-)
