I got my letter today, after 13 days! My son is Ship 03 Div 338.....how do I find others with same and what ship is 03? Thanks Nancy
We stayed at Residence, took the shuttle, and were there in 10 minutes. Wasn't a bad drive. Close enough to RTC!
mommaross: I see that Southwest flies from Ft Myers and from Tampa. Did you check the rates into Milwaukee from there? It really is a great place to fly into from what ladies have been posting on this site, which I have been helping on since early 2010! So you may want to check it out!
Actually, Milwaukee and OHare have about the same drive time, unless there is Chicago traffic---which there usually is---then drive from OHare is longer!
OK....so we have two Sub Dads here??? Well, welcome to our newest one! Our first Sub Dad is an old timer with us now. Glad you all joined us!
This is quite a chatty PIR group! That is great! Keep talking and sharing!
In March I attended my oldest son's PIR we flew into MIdway very cheap but hte traffic was insane booked at Residence its very nice and the service excellent too but not so close to RTC but we had a rental. When we checked in they invited us to a meet and greet they were doing it for the first time. We did attend for a while they treated us to dinner and they had wine, beer and appetizers. Someone was there to answer questions but I couldn't miss Sarge's Meet and Greet so we were there just for a couple of hours meeting other moms and dads. They also have hot breakast but on PIR morning they will have an early simple breakfast. You can book for shuttle (taxi) very cheap too. We were spending the weekend because my son A school was at GL. The last night we moved to Navy Lodge at my son's request it was ok. They have breakfast to go in a bag. Hope this helps anyone.
This time my son will leave so no weekend liberty. For that reason I thought of flying into Ohare and just staying close to that area after he leaves and we catch our flight back from there too.
Also, Kellee: Midway is the furthest airport from RTC. About an hour drive when traffic is good. But...sailors flying out to A School are allowed to have you wait there with them and they fly from OHare and Midway.
Joanie: Hoping the form letter gets there soon!
Marriott hotel in the area that are great are the following:
Residence Inn (pet friendly!), Springhill Suites, and Courtyard Inn
All are close to Sarge's MeetandGreet the night before. 4-5 miles from RTC. They all have the PIR shuttle. We stayed at Residence and loved it. Free hot breakfast buffet too! Just make sure to ask for the Navy Grad rate.
Kellee: Check out Southwest Airlines (if they fly from your are). into Milwaukee or Chicago-Midway. Milwaukee may be cheaper, is less traffic, cheaper car rental, only 45 minutes to GL. Midway is further away. Southwest has no change fee and first 2 bags check for free.
Ladies, recommend that you all try to book your return on Sunday or later if your sailors are flying out to A School (which could be on Sat or Sun), and if staying in GL for A School, late Sunday or Monday since the GL A School sailors will have daytime liberty each day.
Mine is also ship 11 div 331. We got this stupid hurricane about to go up our butts down here, and the only thing I can think about it is, if it delays an actual letter from my son, i'll be SOOO ill about it.
That is Ship 11 Div 331 OOPS
