WELCOME TO PIR 10/12/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Joanie:  Milwaukee is actually one of the closer airports.  Just a bit further than OHare is from RTC, but with no traffic, travel time should be about the same.  45 minutes approximately.

Remember, ladies.  Those future sailors who think they leave on Staurday for A School may have that changed to Sunday--sometimes it happens.  So if possible, try to stay until Sunday...just in case!

Hi! I'm so excited that this group has started. My son is on Ship 4 DIV 822. I feel like I'm finally surrounded by those who understand what I'm going thru. Thank you all for being a part of this journey.

not sue Ruth...I would think they ship them out & worst case they are on hold in CA until they have enough guys to form a unit. I was curious too b/c I am trying to figure out how long to stay in GL. If the boys are grad & go, Saturday departure is fine. If not, I want to stay til Sunday. If I hear anything, I will let you know.

Good morning! I am another "veteran" mom here. Welcome to the group!!!

Please remember that there are no dumb question, so ask away!!!

If any of you have SRs in divisions 327 or 328 and have received the form letter confirming this as their PIR date please let us know. Inquiring "veteran" moms would like to know. :)

diannep: thanks so much. I just booked my hotel!!! waiting on my flight and car. I am avoiding O'Hare!!! I will drive the extra distance to come in to Milwaukee. I am not a city driver by any means.

Thanks Ruth! was wondering who else might be SWCC. Not a lot of activity on the SWCC group. But, maybe we can change that. LOL!

Joanie:  So wonderful to have a veteran in this group!  Welcome!

We have heard from many others in previous PIR groups who have honorably served their country, but who are still surprised at their emotions when their child goes to bootcamp.  Yep, mom's feelings just a different, right?  Please feel free to provide any insight that you have from your service on here.

On the hotels.....we stayed at Residence Inn Waukegan and really enjoyed it.  They have studios and 2 bdrm 2 bth suites...full kitchen in each...free buffet breakfast---served earlier on PIR morning, PIR shuttle service to RTC, and it is only about 4-5 miles away.  It is also very close to SARGE's MeetandGreet, one of the 3 MeetandGreets offered (and the most informative!).  Other nice hotels in that same area are Springhill Suites and Courtyard.  All of these are Marriotts.  They do offer a Navy Grad rate, but could sell out of it.  We used our AAA rate when there.  No harm in booking early....cancellation is usually up to day before or day of arrival.  Springhill Suites and Courtyard also offer the PIR shuttle.  Both hotels are right next to the Walmart shopping center, which has restaurants, etc. there.

Oh, and Residence Inn is.....PET FRIENDLY!  So if anyone is driving, bring your pet!  Just read this request on another PIR group...where the sailor is begging his mom to bring his pet to PIR.  She booked at Springhill, which is not pet friendly.  I suggested she change to Residence and take the pup!

Welcome, jonnie's sister!  Glad you found the page.  Keep watching, more and more will join and I know you will find others in 328.  Friend request them when you see them post and stay in touch!

By the way, the ship number is the barracks number.  There are several divisions housed in a ship.

Hi all my sister is in ship 9 div. 328 any one else have a SR in the same?

Comment by floridabeachgirl on August 22, 2012 at 8:27am

Hey y'all! No official letter yer. :( but, I am happpy to see other Mom's from ship 4, div 822. I know ship for is for spec war. Is anyone's son SWCC bound after bc? would love to keep in touch. Please add me as a friend.

I am a Navy/Army veteran, but still have the same emotions as all the other moms!!! Can't wait for 10/12 PIR. Would love to meet/greet with y'all. I am following the events for meet and greet that are posted here. Have  not booked any travel yet. Anyone have tentative plans on where to stay? I am a hotel snob!! I know that sounds bad, but I just can't think about a yucky hotel. Plus, I want my son to be in a place he is accustomed to from our travels when he is on liberty. But, I bet he won't even care at that point as long as he gets to see mama and have a place to take a LONG/HOT shower. I sure do remember what a Navy shower is like. LOL!!!

Hope y'all have a wonderful day. Keep your spirits up. We will be at PIR before you know it. :)
