Liz and Kurt: Since so many want "the list," you may want to post it as a "discussion" above in the Forum!
LoriM: No, no real rules on airport visitation. They are "handed off" to the USO personnel upon arrival on the busses. So your source of info will be from the USO people. Some who have long waits have actually left the airport to sightsee for a while with family. Not something we recommend because, God forbid, something happens and your sailor misses his/her flight....not a good thing. But you would need to check with USO personnel about this if you are in a position to do it (late flights) and want to. I have been told that they tell you to be back 3 hours before departure....so this would only work for those leaving later in the afternoon.
You can give your sailor personal items at the airport. Remember, they have a seabag and garment bag (uniforms)---both checked through, and they carry on a backpack. So it is best if these personal items will fit into their existing luggage rather than adding another bag to their group. Ask your SRs what personal items they want you to bring to PIR. You can always take them back, if they change their minds--and mail them to A School. Cells, ipods, laptops are the most popular.
Requesting the A school list also, Thank you. Liz and Kurt
liz and kurt, I would like one too please and thank you
Veteran Moms are there things you can and can't do when you go to the airport to see your Sailor off? Thank you.
Ok, wait....I think I meant the message below to Honorary Mom and Kellie!
AMEN, JustinMom! A good way to start our day!
Kellie: Yes, he would have had liberty today too, but don't worry...he will probably go out with his buddies today (they can go out on the "buddy" system) so he will get time away from RTC.
Yes, that is why we like for all to try to stay at least until Sunday night, if possible, and sightsee in the area if your sailor has to leave early. But at least you got Fri and Sat with your sailor, which is wonderful! We only had PIR Day with our sailor when we were up there (we didn't know about airport visits then...the info on this site was not as complete back in 2009 as it is now!).
Hoping that you can visit your sailor at A School maybe!
Psalm 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
man your battle stations and prayer for all those going through them this week! 5 days to PIR!
