WELCOME TO PIR 10/12/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

For the first time in 8 weeks, I actually get to be one of the people reporting on this website that I FINALLY heard from my son! WOO HOO!  He sounded great! He said when it was time to use the phones he could not get a phone because they were not given very much time. He said when he finally DID get a phone, they yelled that he only had 1 minute. He was so upset and depressed.

They let them use the phones again today and I got to talk to him for over an hour!!! WOW I needed that!

I guess I need to start reading up on what I can and can not bring with me to graduation now.

Kellie (Ship 11 Div. 336 When my Sailor called Thursday he told me that his orders said that he was not to report to CT before, I think he said, the 20th and not after the 22nd.  So I believe that he will remain at GL in Ship 5 in the THU unit for that week and leave the following weekend.  I do not know how much liberty he will have after PIR.  We have a late Saturday night flight home.  I never imagined that he would not leave on Saturday.  It seems that is what happen 99% of the time.  We would have stayed until late Sunday.  Oh well, you roll the dice.  Should have taken the advice given here about that, but I really didn't want to hang around Great Lakes without him.   http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/ship5/index.asp

Congrats to the Captains Cup winners today!

SoupMom:  i would say that the walk is about 1/4 of a mile from the front gate to the PIR Hall.  They do have wheelchairs on base, manned by sailors, that are available to those who need them.

rcabrera:  Normally extras are allowed in the Visitors Center, but I'm not sure about this group since it has been posted that extras are not being allowed in.  You can call the Public Affairs Office on Tues and ask them:
