WELCOME TO PIR 10/12/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Thank you for the info about FB. People write about seeing their kids and I was hoping for a glance at mine in a random picture. No luck...funny now that it's getting closer to seeing him, I'm missing him like in the beginning when he left in June!

they have a form that the recruits fill out when they first get there if they want to announcement sent to their local hometown newspaper. I am not sure if it includes a picture or not.

Anyone know how the graduation pictures can get released to our local newspapers for annoucements?

The Recruit Training Command Facebook page often posts random pics on their page. And we also have moms at PIR who take pics of the performing divisions who come back and post them for the moms who have recruits performing. They normally perform for 2 PIR's before their own :-)

A little note about facebook, You have to be so careful with what you post. Even if a group is private or secret it is still not safe to post any ship or Sailor movement. You have NO way of knowing who all the members really are or if they really have a recruit or a Sailor. Some of the groups are "open" and anyone in the whole world can view that page and read all the comments without even joining the group. And most of the Private or Closed groups all you have to do is request to join and they let you in without asking any questions to see if you really have a Sailor. We want all of you to be able to have a good experience and get all the information you need and want to help you through this experience. Navy for Moms and Facebook can both be wonderful for getting that as well as connecting with oithers who understand what you are going through. We all need that especially during bootcamp because many times our own families just don't get it. So no matter what, be careful of what info you post and be careful of how much of your private info others can see. If you post as if every person in the world including our Gov, terrorist, RDC's and family and freinds can see every post I make and use that to guide you in what to post and what not to post then you should be fine. I am not trying to scare anyone but it is the World Wide Web. Don't be fooled into thinking I can post anything I want because this specific group is private.

Believe me when your Sailor is being deployed you want so badly to come to your pages and groups and tell everyone what you are going through so you can get the support you need but you CANNOT post that. You are not even supposed to send it in a private message or email. So please think of your Sailor's safety and the safely of all the other Sailors as well.

i have found at least 3 facebook groups for this PIR, one is private and two are open. I can only hope they are all safe with what they post and that they all are on this site so we can help them through this experience :-) We love all of you and your soon to be Sailors and we care about their safety as much as we care about the safety of our own Sailors :-D

Thanks so much, JustInMom!  Love the bible verse.  In one of the previous PIR groups a while back, there was a mom on there who posted a bible verse for us each day.  I so looked forward to that!  Maybe you can be the one in this group to post a daily verse for the next couple of weeks??  :-)  Thanks for the inspiration!

ArkansasMom:  BattleStations for this group start this week.  Can't be more specific than that on this page (RTC doesn't allow us to post the dates on here) but we can private message the dates.  There are no BattleStations on Fri or Sat night, but they will continue during PIR week.

Most divisions are now in training week #6 now.  They PIR during week 7.
