N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hello Katp.....if you get an answer I am looking for a good one also. I figure my son would like a good steak. Where do you live? I am in Bakersfield area. I am planning to leave early the 24th but waiting for the letter for confirmation. I did contact the recruiter but he stated he couldn't get onto the computer.

Katp:  Sarge should have some suggestions for you on the restaurants!  He has been in the area for over 30 yrs.

Katp,

I also live in the Inland Empire in Southern California.  When my Sailor daughter graduated in March, I was able to get a Delta flight from Ontario that left at 6:05 am connected in Salt Lake City, then arrived in O'Hare at about 3:30 pm on the Thursday before PIR.  You should be able to get the same flight and connection.  It should be in the $300 range.  We also stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Waukegan, a very nice hotel!!

Me and my husband really want to make it to Sarge's meet and greet but we are flying in from California and we are trying to get an early flight ! Trying to miss LA traffic and Chicago traffic is difficult ! Does anyone know of a good steak or ribs place to take our son to for dinner after PIR ? My son is a meat and potatoes kid and I am sure after 2 months of bootcamp food he will want a good steak or rib dinner !

I want to encourage every one to sign up for Sarge's meet and greet scheduled for 10/24 at the Sundance Saloon.  It is a great opportunity for all of us who have become friends here to get to know each other personally the night before our kids PIR.  PIR itself is so busy, everyone is trying to find "their sailor", who is dressed like everybody else, in a sea of people, That meet and greet the night before is a fun time.  By the time Friday a.m. comes, we are already acquainted.  Sarge has great advice about parking, roads to take (and not take) the following morning, etc. It was incredibly helpful to us at PIR in July.  Hope to see you there!

Thanks for being here, Lala!  Your wisdom and experience are deeply appreciated.  You were so helpful when my son went through basic in May.  Have a blast with your little granddaughter.  Your daughter's story gives us all vision for our children's futures.  God bless!

Hi everyone I am one of the volunteers here to help you through this experience :) Not sure how I missed that this group had started but better late than never lol.  I know how hard this is for so many of you. And as hard as it is to believe the boot camp time will pass pretty quickly. I always say the days drag by but the weeks pass quickly. I was a mess when my daughter was there. I didn’t have much time to prepare as she was only in DEP one month and then she was gone. I was always wondering what she was doing and how she was. But it all turned out great and it is so hard for me to believe it has been more than three years. Now she is a Sailor and is married to a Sailor and they just had their first baby/my first grand baby :) She was born July 24th and I was there <3 She is simply perfect and has already stolen my heart. :) After more than three years on this site I am still here helping others get through this experience and I love it. If you have any questions or concerns please just let us know. We are here to help you :) And please feel free to send me a friend request if you like. I am happy to help in any way I can.

Try to find something fun to do and stay busy. If you have little ones at home there are several things you can do to make this journey a little easier for the, Make a paper chain with a link for each day they have left in boot camp and let them remove one link each day. It will help them see that this is only temporary. Other have also put a quarter in a jar for every day left and each week allowed the child/children to use the money for an ice-cream cone or even for a special card to send to their recruit, gumballs or gummy bears in a jar work well too and they get a tiny little treat each day. So many things can make it a better experience for them.  Welcome to your PIR group, we are happy to have you here :)

lorilefebvre- my daughter is in Zachary's ship and division, and no, no phone call yet. was rather expecting one yesterday, but got none. I hope she gets to call over the next couple days, because we just found out my husband is being deployed overseas in a week, and she isn't aware, so if she doesn't call prior to Sunday, she won't get to speak with him before he goes. which will break both of their hearts.
